October 3rd is a Tuesday this year (easy for me to figure that out, since my birthday is October 2nd), so the announcement that was just made would be about the DVD release, not a theatrical release (which would be on a Friday, not a Tuesday), but, should Funi's limited theatrical releases (approximately 100 screens in the top 35 markets, according to Anime Insider) be reasonably successful, you can almost certainly look for a similar such 35-city theatrical release for the Fullmetal Alchemist film, probably around late August.

But the TV series DVDs won't even all be out yet by that time, will they? Volume 8 comes out in about a week and there are 5 more volumes after that.
EDIT: Never mind. The FUNI rep has spoken on this. The last volume of the TV series will come out the same day. |

Well, actually, over summer, movies have a tendancy to release on tuesdays as well as fridays over here anyway, so a thetrical is possible **EDIT!!! sorry i was confused, over summer we have fri. + wed. releases. Tuesday is the day most things come to DVD however i dunno 'bout you but i would MUCH rather see this in theatres than a DBZ movie..... |

Honestly, was anyone really surprised that it was Funimation who picked up the FMA movie? For me, it was just a matter of time until they licensed/announced it. In fact, I'm pretty sure that it never appeared on a certain fansub torrent update site (a site that doesn't list licensed anime), because it was generally assumed that it would be licensed sooner or later. I mean, maybe if it was prohibitively expensive for Funimation, we might have seen Manga Ent. pick it up but Funimation seems to be on a pretty good roll these days. |

Hey!! Wow!!
Monthly FMA TV Volumes? Vol. 13 and FMA Movie out on the same day? Awesome GONZO Properties? (Basilisk, Trinity Blood, etc...) Moving anime to the theaters? (DBZ, etc...) I love Funimation! They're seriously on a roll these days... |

THANK YOU! THANK YOU GOD!
Huge sigh of relief from me. And thank Heavens the fantastic Fullmetal Alchemist movie didn't fall into the hands of Dreamworks or Go Fish Pictures. And way to go to Funimation for getting out this year as well. I thought we'd have to wait until 2007. BRING ON A THEATRICAL RELEASE! |

Yeah, but if it does get a theatrical release I hope it's more like Ghost in the Shell 2's release and less like Appleseed's "You only get to see this film theatrically if you live in the state of California." release. It least We'll get at least one theater in Minnesota here to pick it up then.
It's really a great film I'm glad Funi got it rather than someone else. I don't like having to get used to a new English voice cast. |

Hopefully it will. But at least we got a firm release date. Square wouldn't even give us that for Advent Children not long ago. Kruszer, keep in mind that Dreamworks/Go Fish Pictures totally screwed fans over with the Ghost In The Shell 2 release. If someone like Funimation got it, no doubt they would've pursued the SAC voice cast to do an English dub. |

Indeed, because Funimation actually seems to care about what the fans want and hasn't done a half-assed job at anything in quite a while. As someone with a slight visual handicap I really appreciate a dubs inclusion along with the original. It's not a necessity for a DVD but it's welcome. As for lack of extras and crappy cover that's just slacking off, at least they had a decent excuse for the lack of a dub.
