That manga is on the same level as Battle Royale, if they have published that and Berserk over here, then they will probably publish Elfen Lied. But I don't know when.

I have another question for those who read the translations or the manga. Did Lynn Okamoto already finish the series? Is Volume 9 the final one?

While I would absolutely LOVE to see that happen, it really will depend on how well Elfen Lied did sales-wise on the DVD release.

If I remember correctly, I think Vol.4 made a lot of sales.

I heard that volume 12 was the last one.

I'm the head of the team that scanlates it...it isn't licensed yet.

It's not yet licensed and the last volume is #12 finished in september, 05 with an afterward.
I'm with you though, nya. I'd very much like to see the whole thing stateside... very much.

What might hold back a licensing deal is that
A) the overall feel is not as sophisticated as in the anime
B) it's already familiar to anime watchers, reducing the mystery and suspense that's an important part of the narrative.
C) the art is not really that good since, if I've understood it correctly, Elfen Lied the manga is a one-person production. Most manga authors have a team of assistants to polish up the end product.
I wouldn't mind seeing the manga published, but I do think there's a clear risk of it not selling as well as desired.

On the other hand the anime only covers two thirds of the manga, so fans of the anime might want to know what happens after the ending.

Problem is, a lot of people that only were familiar with the anime seem to be of the opinion that it ended at exactly the right time, myself included. I don't really want to see more Diclonius thrown at the main cast to get things moving again.

The ending of the anime is far off from what happens in the manga, so you're not gonna really see what happens after the anime's ending...

I'll qualify my statement and say the anime followed the first volumes very closely. Question is if potential buyers have the patience to hang in there until they diverge. Especially as it's also being scanlated.
And about sophistication, the publisher that picks up the manga might want to change those covers. It was done for Lone Wolf and Cub so it's not unheard of. Elfen Lied's covers are unremarkable run of the mill stuff and something that connects better with the anime would be better. Not necessarily a Klimt pastiche but still some famous painter from the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Mucha perhaps, although that might come off as cliched. For the purists the original front covers could be included on the back or as a color spread.
