Has it been stated yet if this is a sequel or a reboot?

CR's description seems to indicate that it will follow the Rozen Maiden II manga so it is a sequel but it starts out as a reboot.

The promo already showed that this was going to be a reboot with hints of sequel. Jun in university is from Rozen Maiden II manga while scenes with Kirakishou and Hinaichigo hinted that they are adapting parts of the first manga.

They obviosuly will do a recap of the original story since it has been more than six years since last season, that is why Kirakishou and Hinaichigo were included in the preview.

Added it to instant queue and can't wait!! The animation looks gorgeous^^ I wonder if Sentai will pick this one up too? I assume they license rescued all the titles in anticipation of the new series?

Of course, but the promo hinted scenes from the first manga which weren't in the previous anime seasonsthe part when Kirakishou takes control of Hinaichigo.
The second season had a lot of anime-original contents (Barashishou) plus it's a different studio so it's easier to do a reboot if they want a sequel to avoid inconsistencies.

"Zurückspulen" is also the german word for "to rewind" which indicates a reboot rather than anythiny else...

To the best of my knowledge the series is set in an alternate timeline where he said "no". At least according to the summary given on Crunchyroll. I don't think sequel would be the right word. It seems to be more of a "what if" scenario. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I'm guessing Crunchy sublicensed the rights for this from Sentai, at least for North America. It's one of the TBS owned shows of the season and Sentai already has the rest of the franchise. I can't see them passing on it. Plus, I can't recall any TBS simulcasts that weren't licensed by Sentai.

Hmm that has me thinking a bit on why cr so many boxes added for it's catalog line-up. I hope they got the rights to stream the original series as well.

Wasn't Sankarea a TBS title that FUNimation got?

TBS was on the production committee, but I don't know if they had international rights or not. Those may have belonged to Kodansha or Pony Canyon. Sometimes it's hard to tell until the boxset is released and you see who's logo is on it.
