I really hope this gets made this time. Black is an excellent writer and from all of his interviews, its clear he has complete respect for the source material.

I don't know how Shane Black will handle the live-action Hollywood version of "Death Note." He'll probably have the weird creature in the movie and he'll probably have a Japanese-American character or two in there just to pay tribute to "Death Note's" Japanese origins. It'll be interesting to see how this'll be handled.

I'm thinking about casting now for Death Note... Everyone pulls out that "oh please not Zac Efron" with this, but like... he's honestly not a bad actor, really. I mean, he's probably not going to play a high school student now, but they'll probably age this up somewhat (like the proposed adaptation of this one novel series I like that's a heist thing. It's interesting how having the main characters be teens is sort of expected in some media but becomes a complication in others.) Anyway...
They'll probably cast someone British (Daniel Radcliffe?) unless they actually cast someone Asian for this, which would be cool. Excited to see what they'd do with L, too. |

This may have slipped my mind (how could it not...) but I've still been waiting around for some kinda news on it.
I gotta admit, when it was first talked about, I was excited  .
Then I was a little worried, but still wanted to see it get made... And now, now I really wish they'd just hurry the hell up and get on it. Because I still now would love to see this done. I think it could actually turn out pretty damn good if they tried hard enough. Still happy to see it's not been completely dumped yet. |

To be fair, with the exception of dragonball, none of those were bad movies. You could tell a lot of heart went into them especially in the case of speed racer, but yeah, giving a damn doesn't always translate to a box office success. Death Note has every possibility to do well just so long as it isn't too alienating as some people say Speed Racer might have been and that it gets proper promotion and it is released at the right time of year, as I believer Astro Boy wasn't. |

Speaking of which, when was the last time anyone heard of him? Would it still be viable for them to cast him in this role. I mean, I have nothing against him, just at this point, I can't remember the last thing he was cast in. |

According IMDB, he's got a couple of movies lined up, but the last role that I recall hearing about him was The Paperboy. He's going the indie film route right now to gain "credibility" as an actor, which sometimes pans out for Hollywood actors and sometimes not. It doesn't mean he won't get cast in bigger films though.

This sounds a lot more promising than the BLEACH movie, which has a Wrath of the Titans writer and Get Smart producer.
