I was wondering if anyone knew whether or not the Inu Yuusha movie is currently available on video or DVD in subtitled format yet?

Considering it was released in Japanese theaters this January... I doubt we'll see a R2 DVD/VHS release before the summer... |

Inu Yasha the series isn't even released in English format. Probably when it has been licensed.

Viz has the rights to IY, but has set a release date for. It's kind of odd, because the only thing that they are releasing lately is Ranma and Maison Ikkoku. Any which way, I got my 39 ep. fansub of it, so it should keep me busy, while I wait. |

Yeah... they announced the license at Anime Expo last year. They were holding off on releasing it in an attempt to get it on TV... they even brought their "for the TV execs" promo trailer-thing... It went something like "Half demon... half human... all action!" ;) TV Execs think the strangest things are "good" when promoting a title... ;) |

Hmmm, from what I have seen of the first 39 ep. of it, Kyle Pope will have his hands full for blood has been "moped" up and bath sceans cut, but I'll love to see a Rumiko series on national televison. |

Inuyashu would be a better fit for Adult Swim. Although, they might be able to get away with a lot of the blood since its "non-human" in nature a lot of the times. My only concern would be the toning down of the script |

That's true, just as long as it's not limited only to the "non-human" like the early seasons of DBZ. As long as the script and 90% of sceans unchanged (I can understand cut a thing here, but hopefully it just to time alloment.), I'll be pretty happy. |

The problem with Inu-Yuusha getting on television is that it comes across as a romantic action comedy, which just won't sell to American kids.
I think the romance is very cute. I only have the first 15 episodes, so I'm only just getting to the part where feelings really come out. There is a bit of blood, but it's mostly held to the 2 brothers/demons. They were downright violent. I think at that point in the series, however, it needed a good, swift, kick in the pants, and that's just the trick to do it. I think it's a beautiful series, and I'd hate to see them cut too much out of it. For once, it really doesn't need to be edited all that much. |

It's not exactly a credible source so take it for what it's worth, but I rememeber someone on another board saying he thought Cartoon Network had got the broadcast rights to it.
If they havn't yet I'm sure that CN is Viz's main target to sell it. It would make a good show for Adult Swim Action. |

Yep, they said the same thing about Tenchi. 
I as well, but the US is the pretty much the censorship captial of the world. *L* But from what I saw of the series so far, it looks like not too much will cut in the long run, just the blood, nudity, and cuss words (even though there not a whole of that.). |

I think even if the younger crowd didn't go for the romance of it there's still plenty of demon slicing action for them.
Ah crap, on a unrelated note I just realized that even on Adult Swim Miroku's going to get toned down. No ass grabing for you! |

Not that I'm not taking the rumours that the Cartoon Network is interested in Inu Yasha with a huge grain of salt, being rumours and all (and even if they were true, it's not like I can watch CN in Montreal without a grey market mini-dish, so it's moot to me), but if Viz were interested in selling a series to the Cartoon Network wouldn't the Cartoon Network prefer Ranma 1/2? Yeah, they'd have to either cut a few shots from most episodes or add the good old "digital bikini" where cutting isn't possible, but otherwise Ranma 1/2 seems like a good candidate for CN, since the martial arts seen on the show is just cartoonish with no one really getting hurt too badly. Plus, an advantage of Ranma 1/2 over Inu Yasha from the Cartoon Network's vantage point is that there are several times the number of episodes. If Viz were to just let them show the first four TV seasons (released long ago on video) alone, there'd be at least 80 episodes, above the minimum of 65 needed for CN to run a show 5 times a week, and with more episodes to come in the future, as Viz releases the other 120 odd episodes on video/DVD.
Also, relating to something Ataru (the poster, not the UY character) mentioned, isn't it just a myth that, out of all the countries in the world that show Japanese animation on television, the United States and (English) Canada are the worst in terms of editing? On French (France) TV, the titles of the shows and/or the character names are frequently changed. For example, City Hunter became "Nick Larson" (any relation to Bob the "exorcist"/huckster?), Urusei Yatsura is "Ramu" (one way of reading Lum's name in katakana) and Kimagure Orange Road is "Max et Cie" ("Cie" = "Compagnie"). For Ranma 1/2, the title of the show remained the same, but, if I remember correctly, Ranma was the only character to keep his/her name as it was in the Japanese version. The French version of Sailor Moon showed up a couple of times on Quebec's TVA (for a few weeks in 1995, and then for another few weeks in the fall of 1997, possibly in response to YTV showing the remaining episodes of Sailor Moon R in English; a year before the Americans got to see those episodes, I might add); I didn't get to see too much of it (it was on too early on Saturday mornings), but I distinctly remember that Ami/Mercury was called "Molly", for some reason (note that the character called "Molly" in the English version is Naru-chan). I know the sexual elements of City Hunter were toned down (and this is according to a French fan I was speaking to; I've never done a one-on-one comparison), and a French cable network recently began advertising that it was showing Nadia, uncut for the first time on French TV, implying that the previous run was edited. Please note that French manga usually use the real names of the characters, even when the French dubbed version of the anime doesn't, though the French version of the Sailor Moon manga did contain a few howlers (Haruka/Uranus became "Frederic", Hotaru/Saturn was "Olivia", and Usagi herself was "Bunny", although this isn't so bad since Usagi means "rabbit"). And don't get me started on the horrors of the French theme songs to anime; most of which sound like they were sung by the same guy. |

Now the prize for the country that edits Japanese animation the least on TV (besides Japan, duh, although certain episodes of certain shows, like Cowboy Bebop, never aired on regular broadcast television) may just go to Poland. not that I've ever been to Poland, but my grandmother subscribes to POLSAT, and in 1998 I saw several episodes of Sailor Moon Sailor Stars (yeah, I think Zac would love POLSAT... not), and they weren't even dubbed. They were the Japanese versions, with the opening and closing credits intact. What they had for translation was an announcer just reading a script, not even acting, but you could still hear the Japanese voices in the background!

I had to make a cut here and there for room.
It more then likely fall under the SM: Super Stars, becasue of the gender changing and what not. But if CN has showed us (mostly with Tenchi.), you can cut the s-word and still have a show, but becasue the fact that Ranma can changes genders at a drop of a hat and about half the series is based on the troble that Ranma gets in to becasue of his "speical" gift, parents may look down on it and the next thing you know it, it'll be pulled. By the time Viz finally puts IY out on video, Japan will be in 60, 70 ep. range. I don't really mind that any of them gets on TV, execpt UY , but it'll be nice to see one or the other on cable.
And
 I guess I got put my foot in my mouth for that one. The only other country I saw anime on TV is Korea and it was better than the States.
