Is it just me or is this an example of poor marketing?
Why release the trailer the DAY BEFORE THE RELEASE DATE!!!
It just seems to me like this new company just doesn't give a damn about the series is all... Am I the only one who thinks this?

Yeah, Tecmo is just sending this one out to die. They've done just about everything wrong when it comes to this release... and then they'll probably blame it on Atelier not being popular enough to localize any more.

I mean... I cannot even find a fan site / game page / whatever it is called for this game on the Techmo company website...
I don't even care so much about that whole "not having Japanese audio" rant that has been going on lately. What I am a bit sad about is that it seems the company isn't taking pride in their games.

I'm pretty sure with other trailers, you also got a snip of the voice acting.
Nice, TK. Just nice.
I'm speechless at how they've handled this.

No, basically everyone that cares about the Atelier franchise thinks they don't give a shit and are doing an atrocious job of, well, basically everything. This is the sole marketing they've done for the game as far as I know. They took a 30 second Japanese trailer and put it up with, I think, no alterations except the PEGI rating. Oh, right, this isn't even marketing from the U.S. side.

If the marketing side is this half assed, can you imagine how half assed the games localization itself will be? I imagine that only the most important story moments will have any voices, and thats like barely any of the content overall.

Your right... that is the Europe release date in the trailer...
Well whatever, I'll support the Atelier series.

The game got a thing on PSN's Day-1 Digital, so it might have gotten a little notice on PSN, but that's pretty much it. And the first trailer, the day before release, with no preview of what the English VAs sound like, was exactly the same as the Japanese trailer from forever ago that pretty much everyone who is going to buy this has already seen. I just hope this doesn't mean Tecmo is trying to kill the Atelier series in NA, as there are a good number of Atelier fans over here, and I wouldn't want this to be the last game in the series to come over here.

It's a shame about the partial dub, that news was enough to kill me getting the game. I played the previous Arland games in english so that doesn't phase me. But not giving the same love and care as they did before Tecmo Koei took over does.
I for one fear their next release off half baked releases stateside. (if there are any after this nugget).

ALL of the Atelier games for the PS3 were partial dubs. I dont understand why people are making such a big deal out of it. If you go to both tracks in the games, the Japanese side has more voice acting than the English side. It didn't hurt my enjoyment of the game either. People are so petty that they will let something like such destroy the chances of any of the future games getting released outside of Japan.

If Tecmo have very low expectations on this title, why not rally all the available Atelier fans and buy the game anyways? Show them there are devoted fans willing to buy, and maybe enough of you will go above and beyond Tecmo's sale expectations just to give them a wake-up call. The last thing you want is to create this self-defeating prophecy.

Theres no way I'd ever play or watch something focused on moe in a dub. American dubbers just can't do the moe voices well.. its mainly 40+ year old women doing all the female voicing, and it just sounds so awkward and painful to hear them try to sound cute. So its pretty much Japanese track or nothing for stuff like this.
You might call it petty, but I'm not going to be playing it either way if they continue with dubbed only releases, so I'll take that risk.

I'll no doubt buy this (even though I didn't preorder), as I'd like to see future Atelier games make it to the US in any form. However, I'm aware that if enough people buy this release, then Tecmo's corner-cutting has been justified, and the next release will be the same. And if people don't buy this release, then it might very well prompt them to stop releasing the games altogether. It's a nontrivial dilemma as far as I'm concerned.

I always play games dubbed, unless I detest the English VAs, which I don't in the Atelier games, so it's perfectly fine, IMO. Anyways, there still should be the option to just turn the voices off, which is there just for people with your mindset who don't like the dub.
However, I will agree that ditching the Japanese audio in this was an odd choice, especially since the NIS releases have had it this whole time, it was already there in the JP version, and it was far enough away from the initial release in Japan that I'd doubt reverse importation would be a problem.
