OMG. OMG. OMG. OMG. OMG. XDDDDDDDDDDDDDD Trying very hard to breathe normally.... failing. XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
WHY oh WHY am I not in Japan this Christmas?! The loooooong-awaited sequel (6 years!) at long, long last--and with such awesome, shiny animation! The fight sequences look amazing, and I love the new turquoise synergetic suits the girls are wearing! (oh, hey--it's Maya at last!). SAKURA LIVES!!! And NEW THEME SONG BY ANGELA! (when is this "Soukyuu" single being released? Anyone know?) Soushi still only appears as a phantom... here's hoping he'll finally come back (and double-hoping they won't kill off poor Kazuki after he's already waited and suffered so long). CANNOT WAIT!!!! |

This looks so good!!!!
I hope they make Soushi and Kazuki canon! (Romantically canon). |

I am so with you. Though since two Soushi-free years have passed and Kazuki appears not to have shacked up with Maya, SouKazu seems pretty canon (at least on Kazuki's side). I feel like that's what took Ubukata-sensei and Xebec so long to finally give us this sequel--they had to work up the courage to follow through with the direction their hero was obviously heading in, whatever the mainstream fan lashback, etc. After all, it's way more than just subtext at this point with SouKazu--Kazuki would become wildly out of character if he suddenly started noticing girls and responding to all the advances he's managed to miss or ignore throughout the series. Wouldn't it be great if this could be the pioneering mecha anime that had an honest-to-goodness portrayal of a realistically/non-stereotypical or BL fanservicey gay hero? |

Christmas Day isn't the same without Fafner, of course. One hopes the première is at least mildly festive — it be fitting if cinema attendees were each given a flimsy party hat and a stiff drink. |

I thought there was going to be a S2 TV series as well? Or was I just misunderstanding it, and this movie was it?
PS: Hisashi Hirai "working" on the project is such a broad term. I think they mean pulling out the same old folder of the same 10 character designs he's been using for 15 years |

I haven't heard anything about a season 2--it kind of seems like this movie is going to be it (gawds, please don't kill off poor Kazuki, Xebec!!). I would be thrilled to death if there were a sequel, though--where did you hear/read that? And lol, yeah, I have to admit what initially attracted me to Fafner way back in 2005 was that Kazuki looked like a nicer version of Athrun. Guess if it's not broke, don't fix it? ^^;;; (though those distinct, plasticky designs of his do get old after a few series) That said, he did design new synergetic suits (well, palette-swapped them, anyway. The girls now wear turquoise and Kazuki is seen in a hot, new black one in the latest promo pic). He probably also drew new casual outfits for all the characters, and aged them 2 years (though that's not too big a difference; looks like everyone is taller and Kazuki lost a bit of weight). Ah, and it looks like we have 4 new characters: the mysterious Misao, the 2 blonde foreigners in Alvis uniforms, and Yumiko's daughter. |
