Wasn't sure if it should go here or the Anime forum, but here goes...

Was checking the Pandora Hearts LJ comm, and saw the following post:
Quote:
I got Pandora Hearts Vol1 from Right Stuf which I received today. I put in disc 2 and the actual episodes (the NIS logo and TBS are perfectly clear) are snowy/grainy (picture is not clear, like when have static or bad cable reception). I tried it on my Philips DVD and my Pioneer HD recorder and it looks the same. Very disappointing. Has anyone else had this issue??

I sent a message to NIS but I never got a reply the last time I asked a question.

So, as their question asks, has anyone else had this trouble, and where did you get your DVDs from? Also, has anyone heard if there will be replacement discs like for the Persona and Toradora releases?

I have the same problem with the discs I got from RightStuf. I was wondering if it was just me or if everyone had the same problem. Sad

I looked at the NIS site for it (I hadn't bought it yet myself since I was worried something else like this would happen) and unfortunately found this message:
Quote:

Special Notice: The film grain effect in Pandora Hearts was added by the creators and is intentional in order to give the graphics more texture and depth.

So yeah, odd since I've seen some HD RAWS/AMVs of the series so I guess the grain wasn't there during the broadcast, never understood who in their right mind would add grain to a show too...

o.O That's just odd. I wouldn't think that'd add more texture and depth but instead annoy the viewers who wanted a clear picture.

This has been known for a few weeks now since it was brought up at AOD. They even posted a few screenshots from the fansub, R1 & R2 releases to show how bad NISA's release is.

Well, based on some of the screenshots the grain isn't too noticeable, but I'm sure when in motion it's pretty bad.
Now I'm on the fence about blind-buying this series since I get the feeling the grain is just going to give me a headache instead of adding an extra effect.

I got mine yesterday and was very appalled by what I saw when I put the DVD in. I asked about it on Livejournal and got info on the other forum mentioned above and NIS's disclaimer was pointed out as well. Sorry but it's a BAD CHOICE on their part. I own a couple of the R2 DVDs. You have to look HARD to see the added SLIGHT grain. It does NOT affect what I SEE at all. I cannot say the same about the NIS release!! They should have left it as it was. There's no way I'm paying for the Part 2.

Seriously, you should hear my photo teachers go on about how film gives you a crisper image than digital even today, adding grain=/= making it look like a film.
Gahhh, that grain is going to drive me up the wall yet I love this show to death and really want to get it. Grrr, and DVDs never look as nice on my computer as well so I'm going to be so annoyed when I get around to rewatching this.

What a let down....I was considering buying this but that grain effect is awful.

$43.99 for VHS like quality DVDs? No thanks. =/

I pre-ordered this and hadn't popped in the DVDs. I was going to wait until volume 2 came out and marathon them.

Now I'm going to skip volume 2, stick volume 1 in a closet, and feel like a tool.

The grain effect didn't look that bad. I've seen worse before, but it's still watchable.

I agree it didn't look that bad; Teufel you should at least try watching the first volume to see if you are bother by it or not, since you already brought it.
