This was one of my most favorite anime last year. Too bad it flopped. I would have loved to see what happened next with those two.
Why doesn't Yuri anime sell well in Japan?

I wonder if maybe it's because they think it's all about girls having boob-grabbing and flashy sex and don't want anything to do with it.
But this anime isn't that at all! I really liked Aoi Hana! it's the first shoujo-ai I ever watched! Phoo! Well, at least there's Hourou Musuko to look forward to.

In all honesty, I'm surprised Aoi Hana got green-lit for an anime TV series in the first place. I'm all up for new yuri anime TV series being confirmed, but the series' subject matter of actually dealing with issues of a schoolgirl being a lesbian is really tough to market and sell.

it was really boring ....to buy a dvd it would have to be entertaining enough to watch several times over (outlaw star, flcl, GITS) but this was really boring from what most people I've asked have said

I also am a fan of the first season, but it is a shame it did not sell well, that might mean the license might be cheap, so maybe sentai films will scoop it up, I will buy it,
but this is why japanese anime companies need to think more globally when working on anime, shows like this would have sold better, if they would just release it with subtitles. if I'm willing to buy sentai films stuff, which is only subtitled, then of course I would be all over the original R2, or better yet the blu-ray if it was ever released in japan with subtitles, then they would see just how popular a show can be to us worldwide fans,

Aoi Hana would probably have sold better if it had boob grabbing and flashy sex.
Its failure was an inability to find an interested audience. There's no sex appeal for the male audience who favor yuri fan service, and most women are unable to identify with a serious lesbian drama.
Of course, there's always the question of whether the show would've fared better if they aired it on the established noitaminA slot, so that may be where Hourou Musuko comes in.

It's definitely a slower paced show. However, the quality is indeed high, in terms of both direction and production.

Goddammit Japan, you're ruining for all of us!
I really wanted to see a 2nd Season of Aoi Hana, it was a beautiful show with great characters and amazing production values.
And instead of that, we're getting stuff like Queen's Blade ¬___¬

Sad though.

I thought Aoi Hana was a very sweet show, its a shame more people didn't buy it. However, I'm not really surprised it wasn't a success.
If sentai picks it up I'll definitely be interested in buying it.

I'm surprised that straight-up yuri anime is still being made. Didn't Sasameki Koto have relatively low sales, too, even though it was clearly marketed more towards otaku? It's a shame; this is one of my favorite genres.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the author's other work Wandering Son get green-lit for an anime as well? I'm very surprised at that, now that I see that the adaptation of Aoi Hana didn't so very well.

I wonder. Would the male otaku audience would want to watch an anime series where two girls do the whole "yuri fan service" but later builds up to actually become a real couple? I have this nagging feeling someone in the higher ups should make the Sono Hanabira series into a TV anime series since that fills that quota.

You could have bought those Japanese DVDs if you wanted to. But its too expensive for you to buy and too expensive for me to buy so we didn't. Japanese customers came to the same conclusions we did and are no more responsible for "ruining" anything than we are.
This is just simple supply and demand..

This is incredibly disappointing news. Still, I always prefer when somebody comes out and bluntly says there will be no more of a given anime title as opposed to letting us sit and wonder.

What's with all these dumb accidental double posts at ANN all of a sudden? Anyway, any admin who sees this please delete, thanks.
