I need to write a thesis about anime industry. That's why I need people to help me to fill up the survey in order to find out some fact about the anime industry as well as anime audiences.

Here is the link:

Thank you guys so much.

I really need this in order to pass my course....

What is your thesis on, and how in the world is a person's favorite character and studio relevant to market research?

@Tony K.: My thesis is actually about Toei Animation business strategies ^^ And from what I've researched, it looks like Toei Animation is trying to build their brand name. Thus, I am thinking to find out how many people actually consider Toei Animation and their characters are their favorites.

@gartholamundi: Yeah, thank you.

In that case, wouldn't it be more effective to rename to "Do you consider any Toei character a favorite?" "If "yes", which?"
Same for anime.
While I'm a big fan of One Piece and would love to include that in the questionnaire, it's not my one favorite, nor is any of its characters (although Luffy is pretty close).

Yes, I've considered about you said at first but then my supervisor asked me to change it to the current questions. She said because we need to see Toei from a macro environment, in another words, do Toei stand out from other studios as well as their characters.

But thanks so much for your recommend.

Anyway, I think we can discuss about anime industry here as well. Like for example, do you guys think that fansubs are actually killing anime industry. I've read some articles in ANN as well as other websites, and they said the anime sales is going down because of fansub.

Nah, we already get one thread like that every month, and they always end up getting locked.

It blocked because nobody participate? It means a lot people watch anime but a lot of them do not care/ do not know about the anime industry.....

Actually, we get too many participants for fansub threads. And a lot of those people can become a little extreme after a while. The threads usually get locked because the argument just keeps going around in circles until they eventually start insulting each other. But trust me, people care.

If your thesis does not conclude with "sex sells anime" I think you will have to repeat.

Seriously, I filled out your survey but I can't see any rhyme or reason to it, and many holes. For example you don't have a data point for "I will watch fansub anime only if I can't get the title I am interested in any other way."

Well, good luck with it.

I must agree with what others have said - the options are extremely limited and push the participant in the direction you want. There are no options for some one who doesn't like to watch anime online for instance. Its not that I think Crunchyroll is too expensive - its that I prefer to watch anime in my home, on my big-screen - there are no options for someone like this, you either think its a great service or you will go to fansubs as your only options - very skewed IMHO.

Yah, good to hear about that but so there always some fight between fansubs' people and people who dont want fansubs????

This thesis is not really about anime industry but anime industry is a part of it...And please, dont curse me to repeat okay ^^. And yeah, maybe many holes but i only want to research on some aspect of anime. Maybe you can't see the rhyme or reason just doing this survey, but besides the survey, i need to put other data together, so it will make sense. But thanks for helping.

You know that OVA doesn't mean dvd right? OVAs are referring to anime that were made directly to home video like Serial Experiments Lain and Red or Die. If you were to buy something like Death Note on dvd it wouldn't be and OVA it would be an anime dvd.

Correct, people supporting fansubs and people against fansubs have a bad habit of getting into overly heated arguments on the morality/ justification of the use of fansubs and the effect they have on the industry. Though the ANN moderators have gotten into the good habit of trying to stop these arguments before they get out of hand, or even before they get started.

Also I filled out the survey, and I thought it was ok. Though I can definitely see what the others have been saying. there is allot lacking in this.

Since your topic is on the anime industry in general, I think that you can narrow it down to a few more specific subtopics instead and maybe these might work?(if not let me know)

-Talk about how certain anime subgenres developed over the ages such as mecha particularly or maybe even shoujo

-Since you said you wanted to focus on Toei specifically in older posts, maybe the bulk of it can be about the studio's history and what particular anime they have had a lot of success in over the years and why they were popular. Then you can probably use your conclusion to briefly explain steps they are taking to promote their name.

- While the fansub argument can get a bit rowdy on this forum, maybe your essay can focus this topic as there is a lot to talk about from both sides. Your essay can probably focus on both the good and bad things about fansubs such as how they have promoted certain anime to become popular and also led to the piracy problem revolving around it at the same time along with how the anime industry is suffering from it. Explaining how fansubs were originally started in your essay can help it out a lot too.

I hope that helps, if you go a bit more in depth on your future posts, it will be a lot easier to know what you want to write about specifically. I will be glad to help you out. Feel free to send me a private message if the need calls for it.
