DAMNIT!
Damnit all to hell!
Why did Viz had to get it?!
Now, it wont be 'Death God', it'll be 'Soul Reaper'!
Just when it starts getting better too!

Boohoohoo, go import it then. It's cheaper that way anyway. What makes you think the scantilation translations are so spot-on anyway?

its not that. I've seen what they call the Shinigami's in Bleach, 'Soul Reaper's' Its what i sense. I really dont like that.
Oh well, my anger is over now. I will, of course, buy the Viz versions when their released......depending if i like the translations though.....

Well, scanslators DID translate it as "Reaper..."
Meh. I'm pissed that it happened so soon. JUST when DN came back to Jump they license it. Now I'll have to wait like 3 years 'til I can find out what happens, because scanslations are going bye-bye. (guess that's what happens for being illegit, huh...)
Death Note is the most beautiful series in the world to me...literally, those people who think that mangaphiles-who-have-"places in their heart"-for-manga are geeks are wrong...I don't think Viz will do TOO bad with it (For example, Raitou or Light is potayto potahto for me) but if they screw the story too much (which I kinda doubt they will anyway) I'll be pissed.
No, what annoys me more than the Viz license is that hordes of noobs will throng in, armed with their Mary Sues of Justice and insane misunderstandings (ANYONE who says they want a Death Note and would use it to kill their enemies will be thrashed). Right now, the DN fan community is surprisingly *gasps* INTELLIGENT (I honestly don't know any other community that talks about MORALITY and THEME and CHARACTERIZATION and PSYCHOLOGY and ALLUSION and HAMMARTIA), but it's ALL going down.
I'm having flashbacks to Detective Conan. *sighs*

Manga scanners suck all the time. They try to make things extra badass by making the language more foul.
Personally, I think Viz's 2005 line up is going to kick ass.

True that.
I looked at the Japanese version at Walden's and it looks very interesting.

Because they are partially owned by Shueisha and have access to just about every Shonen Jump title they have.

Whats the big difference? How do you even know they will translate it as "Soul Reaper"? Just because one of their translators will translate something into something else doesnt mean whoever does Death Note will follow the same example. Who knows.

The sooner the better. So long as Death Note goes directly to the GN format, it'll be on a bi-monthly schedule, so you'll be caught up in no time flat.

That's going to be the case for every series. For every bunch of tards out there, you're still going to have a (growing) community of intelligent thinkers. For instance, there are THRONGS of Fullmetal Alchemist idiots who really do amaze with their sheer idiocy and "Haaay lol fma <3 so cool hahaha al pwnze," but there's still communities out there who are able to analyze the series in a thoughtful and deep manner.
I wouldn't lose heart just yet. Yeah, fandom can make you wanna throw a brick at some of them, but it won't change the pre-existing people who admire the series for its depth.

Uh, OrangeTangerene/We, The Fans didn't do that with Death Note, at any point. They are a high quality group and did an excellent job with Death Note.
I find this news to be both good and bad. It's very good because I'll finally be able to own it myself. It's a bad thing, though, because We, The Fans will stop scanlating it. As popular as it is, I'm sure someone will pick it up. But the odds are very much in favor of it being some crap group of translators.

I just hope the negative publicity won't cause parents in the U.S. to ban it like they attempted with Pokemon.

I'm worried about the backlash from Religious parents.
Death Note is not the most kid friendly of manga.
Well, I just hope the tranlsater doesn't go the "Soul Reaper" way.

Did he think that a shonen jump title wasn't going to be license by Viz? And someone mention that DN fans are intellegent "community". And I'm pretty sure there's a lot of other dumb fans that go around trying to do thier own "death note". So I'm not sure how intellegent the fanbase could really be?
Eventurally, it will be priced at 8 bucks, so it'll be cheap to own for me. I wish all manga were retail at 8.
Everytime a title get license by it, another leecher weeps

I'm not worried. It's not like they're going to market it the same way they do DBZ and Yu-Gi-Oh! for example. I doubt the readership of Death Note in America will grow large enough for parents to even notice. If Viz really deems it necessary, they'll probably just edit things out like they did with I"s and have more people complain about them. This wouldn't be the first controversial manga to be released in America.

Hohoho...You have NOT seen the Death Note Community at LiveJournal (though there are lots of very cool people in other DN places too). OK, there's crap there (There's crap EVERYWHERE) but just the sheer number of people who say "smart things" about it outnumber the stupi-noobs (for example: I've never seen a Mary Sue Death Note fic)...I've NEVER seen that many for any series, not even stuff like Monster or 20th Century Boys or Fullmetal Alchemist.
I'm just saying stupi-noobs will increase exponentially and basically overpower and take over the world.
As for stupidifying it...I don't think that's going to happen; again, I'm not really scared for the translation. Sure, DN isn't exactly something I'd want my 5-year-old kid to read, but it doesn't have porn or violence (just lotsa dead people). But honestly, I don't think it'll have as much backlash as it has in, say, China, because Death Note and manga in general just ain't mainstream enough in the States.
