Kenji HATTORI (服部 憲知) has no credits.
But with his kanji name he causes a collision during each kanji input for Noritomo HATTORI (服部 憲知, 55 credits for various animation tasks). Is there any situation where a person with no credits should have a kanji name? Or would it be reasonable to search for all these persons with an SQL query and hide the kanji name for each of these? (Which would then be another "toolbox" candidate.) Last edited by Devil Doll on Thu May 27, 2010 8:40 am; edited 1 time in total |

Contributing credits in kanji-only form leads to these kanji being detected as ambiguous in this case, thus the contribution will be rejected and the contributor is offered a list of possible names for these kanji.
These names don't even show the number or type of credits given to each of them, so the contributor has to check every single one of them to make a choice (i. e. open another tab for each of these names and look at the credits), then manually type the complete name (surname and given name) into the contribution form (avoiding any typo), and finally click on the "revalidate" button. All of this would be avoided if the kanji of the obviously wrong person are hidden and don't give a wrong alternative for this person. What's even worse, in case of a typo for the name this person would automatically be created if the user misreads the text in the next form (which may easily contain a dozen persons when working in multi-input mode) and this creation cannot be undone. If the obstructive kanji of the wrong duplicate were hidden then the translation mechanism would automatically replace the kanji input by the romaji name of the correct person correctly placed in the two form fields, with no possibility of a typo, no possibility of creating another wrong person, and without three additional HTTP requests (i. e. additional database server load). |
