Sometimes every M&A fan must move from his lair to face with the rest of the world. Sometimes the rest of the world recognize him as a fan. I'm afraid that that case people usually don't gather in the front of his house to prepare a pyre, but they try to remember if they have ever got in touch with your hobby. The only thing that can threat poor fan is answering their question. Sometimes they are classic, sometimes curious. I know that people who ask me them are usually full of good will, sometimes are misinformed and don't have to know everything about Japanese comics and animation, but I can't help that some odd questions I find just funny.
1)Usually when someone see my collection. Usually I see a strange face when he discover that not all comics are paperbacks and my precious ROV volumes are full of pictures. Then come: -Hmm... manga is black and white? Even Sailor Moon? -Have you read all of them? -Wasn't it a waste of money to buy all that stuff? 2) Part time job in store with all kind of media. Loving Mum is choosing DVD for her about 8 years daughter. From all of animated movies she picked up "Utena Movie" (The cover looked like that- http://azunime.net/anime/grafika/0696/okladka.jpg) -Madam, I'm terribly sorry, but I doubt if it's movie for children. We've got a wide choose of Disney's... -But it's a cartoon! 3)When it comes to talk about anime everyone remind one of two: Sailor Moon -So that little girl was her daughter? -Wasn't Sailor Uranus a man? -She really become Queen? Or Dragon Ball -Wasn't it French cartoon? (not as stupid as it seems- DB& DBZ was aired with French dubbing and song+ polish overdubbing, in GT they took Japanese version) -Weren't Goku and Vegeta brothers? My second favourite: -How it comes that Vegeta become Trunks' father? Did he get drunk Bulma raped him? (Facepalm) And here it comes After watching Brolly's movie with a bunch of friends. The whole dialogue was absolutely serious! -Eire, you seem to know a lot about it... can you explain me one thing? -Yes? -Was he a virgin? That was... interesting. TBH, if I've had an embarrassing question regarding anime (and I know I've had some) I dont remember.

I've gotten this one before. I guess people who don't know about manga assume they take as long to read as novels or something? I don't really get many funny questions. I've had people ask me what the difference between anime and manga is, and the other day my cousin saw my box set of Chevalier D'eon and I started telling her about it, and I guess the French part threw her off, and she asked, "What makes it anime?". I told her, basically that it was made in Japan for a Japanese audience. But I think most people, adults mainly, assume it's cartoons or kid's stuff. The figures on my shelf don't really do much to dispel that...but I don't really care. I've always expected someone to say something like "Aren't you too old for this stuff?," but that's never happened. |

Nothing funny about this question. There are plenty of full color comics, with ones expected to bring a lot of revenue being more likely in color.
Nothing funny about this question. Many people buy books intending to read them at a later date because they don't have enough free time.
Nothing funny about this question. There are plenty of people who started collecting something and later decided it's not worth the trouble.
Nothing funny about this. Starlights are canon examples of transvestite sailors. |

Haruka aka Sailor Uranus was Outer Senshi, but not one of the Starlights.
And the correct answer for "have you read" question is: They are just my basic and most precious ones. The rest is in my sister's room, some are stored in my granny's attic, and those that I didn't find interesting were sold or given away. And yes, I know that i can download them, but I'm a dinosaur and I prefer to buy them like stupid fans do. Last edited by EireformContinent on Sun May 16, 2010 4:42 pm; edited 3 times in total |

That is a good question actually. European strips are in color, and I think American comics are too. So why are manga always B&W? (if there are color manga, they must be titles that aren't referenced online much) Seems to me they'd sell a lot more if they ditched that antique color scheme. |

This thread contains some things I am chucking about.
{MOD EDIT: From grammar English your post free is. Have that we can't. Better next time try you must. -- abunai} Whatever boss. I must have deleted or backspaced that sentence. Now I shall replace "from" with "some". Huzzah I am back in the realm of English. Last edited by ArsenicSteel on Mon May 17, 2010 12:02 pm; edited 1 time in total |

I can't think of many, but eight or so years ago, when I was trying to order some German manga at my local bookstore, the person behind the register asked me: "Do you think it's appropriate for someone your age to buy porn?"

I'll bet that blew her mind. Funny thing, re the original post, is that I'm a big anime fan, but if a civilian asked me about Sailor Moon or Dragon Ball, I'd have to say, "Sorry, I don't know anything about that stuff." |

I still remember a lot from those shows, and I usually don't have problems with answers, but some of them really beat even "The flake of the week".
And I see that the question about money could be misunderstood: they didn't ask me if I do regret that I spend so much, but if I didn't know that I could get them without using money. |

Funniest question....
Don't remember it exactly; someone asked me something about manga but they'd called it "that mango stuff". Was a good bit into the nonsensical conversation before I copped that I wasn't being asked about fruit. |

Most I can remember is trying to remind my sister of a particular shows, she is so awefull with her memory that the actual name draws a blank with her and I have to use a certain word to remind her.
Such words like "Uguu" for Kanon, "Chii" for Chobits, "Nagisa" for Clannad and according to her Kimi ni Todoke is called "Sawako" What is worse is when I am trying to get her from sitting from watching tv with my parents, I will say the name of the show we are about to watch hoping that she knows and I wont have to have my parents hear. Though often her not knowing, my parents then have to know I am watching cartoons about cat eared girls, lesbian love, girl who wants to sleep with lots of guys, guy who wants a harem, boy turns into girl that attracts lesbians and demon lord. Plus a description of Haruhi has on a few occasions end with "bunny girl". My hobby must really look bad to my parents, and looks like I corupted my sister. On multiple occasions I have gotten angry, there is no way I am describing what stuff hapend in Ladies versus Butlers in front of my parents. |

From BestBuy employees:
Q: "Is this it for your purchase?" A: "Goodness, no. I just happen to be a few thousand dollars short this week to buy the remaining anime I want." That answer always puts a smile on their face. |

Shoulda said "Why do simpsons characters have yellow skin and 4 fingers?" As for how to respond to your coworker, I would've just absent mindedly said "yep" and ignored him. |

Hmmm...ones of the best ones that always sticks out in my memory:
Back in the late 90's, while watching DBZ: Mother: "What's with all of the grunting and screaming??? Jeez." Now that I think about it, I can only imagine what it sounded like to others every time I watched literally 30 solid minutes of grunting, growling and manly screaming. |
