so this week is the supposed "Final" episode of the gintama anime series. if you're a fan like i am this is horrible news. course the thing is alot of us are also hoping it isn't ending because while there is definitely reason enough for it to end there's also some hints that its not.
reasons it might end:
-anime is catching up to the manga
-heroman taking its timeslot next week
-the fact they actually said in the show its ending
-a countdown to make it feel even more serious
reasons it might not:
-the final episode is just another episode, nothing special. just feels like an odd way to end.
-they've tricked us into thinking the show is ending before (see episode 150).
-from what I've heard gintama is moving to mondays for re-runs
-tvtokyo's site says these aren't you're typical re-runs.
what do people think? will the show end this week or are we in for another troll from sunrise.

Troll until proven otherwise. Being proven otherwise means no new episode the next week, and the following weeks after that, indefinitely.

Weren't there half-rumours a while back that they're going to wait for a season or two until the manga gets some more content, and do reruns of favourite arcs? It would seem like a logical course of action, since they have obviously been having problems with content (and a drop in quality) since around ep.150.

I think it's just weird that they would decide to suddenly call the whole series off...especially at an unusual episode count --- 201 ? If they were going to end it, it should've been at a more conventional 200.

At least 3 TV stations - BS Japan, TV Aichi and TV Tokyo, have indicated that the series will end at episode 201. Also, non of the broadcasting stations have any dates for new episodes beyond that except for reruns.

From what I understand the movie is intended to be the true last episode - a la Evangelion-style.
I think tvtokyo's announcement about the new night and those shows being "not your typical re-runs" is trying to tell us something - this wouldn't be the first time the show has announced an ending and then gone on anyways, I love their sense of humor.

Considering the length of the show one would think there would be more of a fuss made about the series ending. But the show does seem like it's been going on forever.
I follow up series is possible. Naruto came out with Shipputen after the original, although in that case the new series had been announced before the end of the original. It seems closer to D.Grey-Man which sort of ending with the end of the manga on the expectation that when there's enough story they'll get back to it. Although unlike most of the other long running shows, Gintama doesn't really have a continuing storyline. It's more episodic so it's easier to just stop anywhere.

man it sucks that it ended though some people are saying it will come back in a year but I've yet to see any official statement saying that.
