Does anyone else follow some of the more obscure Japanese musical trends? Lately, I've really been getting into some groups further off the beaten path. Boris is probably my favourite out the group. Sometimes they play long, ponderous compositions (it's not too uncommon for a 70-minute long album to have only three or four tracks), and other records will just be straight-forward hard rock/metal.
Suishou no Fume is similar to Boris, except they play almost exclusively long tracks. They tend to be on the upside of twelve minutes in length, and focus more on the instrumentals. LSD March is more of a psych group, with short songs, either entirely acoustic or else heavily distorted. Is there anyone else that really enjoys this sort of stuff? I occasionally try J-Pop again, and find it to usually be the sort of disposable drivel that makes me dislike US pop music. It's catchy, and kind of fun, but there's not much substance to it. I do enjoy a good chunk of J-Rock. Still, this two (plus the OST and Rap threads) seem to be the only genres that get covered in forums. Anyone on here like some less poppish J-Music? An am I alone in appreciating my strange stuff? |
