Well, hopefully they will get the help that they obviously need. The sentence seems fair and helpful, and hopefully they will be able to rejoin society one day.

As much as I would defend these men for being arrested for possession of virtual material, the '10%' of the images found on their computers renders any debate about this outcome a somewhat meritless endeavour.

That never stopped anyone from raising a stink on the Talkback forums. For example: the next 8 pages of this thread.

That they had photos of real children seals the deal for me. Though I still don't like that the 'anime' drawings were lumped in with actual child pornography. To me that lessens the real crime here of having actual photos of actual child abuse. To me it's almost like charging someone for assault and also playing violent video games. You're lumping in a non-crime with an actual crime. Of course, this is in Canada, so going by Canadian law those anime images are an actual crime. Meanwhile, fiction images thankfully are not a crime in America... yet. Still I can't see how having fictional images of fictional characters can constitute a crime.

Xenos, you do have a point. Unless it was actual shouta or lolita hentai manga or sex depicting kids, the manga part is irrelevant. Real child porn is the only thing that is a crime here. I think they are getting to lenient of sentences right now. Putting them away for years is better.

Isn't only 3 months imprisonment really generous for something like this?

Yeah pretty much and technically it is called manga but western people and non-otakus in general, unfamiliar with anime and manga will automatically lump H-manga & hentai anime with regular manga & anime.
"Oh yeah anime and manga, that's the stuff with all the tentacle and little kid (loli) porn right?"
"..."
"What? Don't they have all those giant breast and stuff too?"
"Well yeah there's that but come on... think before you say stuff buddy." He punched me in the arm. But we had a good talk.
Also it seems like they pretty much plead guilty and were willing to seek help so I can see why they got a lighter sentence.

The whole thing is rather disgusting. It did seem a bit too light for me. What's with the serving on weekends in protective custody? You might as well not even sentence them with any jail time and just give them extended probation. I don't really know how the Canadian justice system works, but that seems like it would be a waste of Canadian taxpayers money.
On a slightly separate note what exactly is a "non-deviant" homosexual relationship? I don't really know what a "deviant" homosexual relationship would be either. Would it be a "deviant" homosexual relationship if he was with an underage boy?

Their is that but also includes worse stuff like rape or prostitution. A non-deviant or normal relationship would be just 2 guys or 2 girls. A deviant one is where one is underage or forced in a sexual relationship. Generally speaking.

Notice how instead of going by actual numbers they just state arbitrary percentages...that 10% could be anywhere from one pic to a million and we'd be none the wiser -_- That said, this would be a fairly light sentence if it were in America, but it's in Canada and I can't speak much about their legal system.

Again, they had real child porn, thus negating the effect of the sentencing specifically for the virtual child porn. We need to see another case where it's strictly child hentai, and absolutely no real child porn, to gain the real perspective of the law on this. In cases like these, they can just add the hentai onto the real child porn and added effect.

not really when you consider the fact that these kids didn't physically hurt anyone.

Animehermit, I could agree with you on that if it was only drawings, but they had actually actual pictures.
Quote: | videos depicting sexual assaults of barely pubescent boys, around 12 years old |
You don't think the boys that were in these videos were harmed? If you make a demand for something then you're party to the results.

Three months? Boo hoo. If this was in America, they'd be rotting away in a prison cell for years.
