I'm wondering...as of right now, how long is it taking US distributers to release a title or to start releasing a title from the time it is licensed? After hearing the news that Azumanga Diaoh is probably licensed by ADV, I'm pretty anxious to get my hands on it:)

The amount of time varies greately from publisher to publisher and release to release. Companies will obviously release a more popular title faster. ADV licenses a monumental number of shows, and right now the company is growing so fast that they can't hire the personel to do the work fast enough. People from ADV films are working on the Anime Network and Newtype (Actually, I believe the editorial staff of Newtype are completely seperate now). So it could honestly take a while. For starters, they haven't announced it yet, so.... who knows when they even planned to announce it. And there are still shows that they announced in 2001 that have not yet been released. On the other hand there are shows they announced in 2002 that have been released. But you don't want them to rush it and do a crappy job, better they take their time and release it properly. In short, anywhere from 8 months to 3 years. -t |
