Hopefully that means it'll be a full on remake instead of a compilation movie. Not holding my breath, though.

Yeah, BONES seems to like these. Remember, they did the same thing with Eureka 7. Like an alt universe type deal.
Also, just checking: everyone generally knows Hiroka and Misa Mizuya are pseudonyms, right? I mean, really, two sisters doing character design? Sure...>_>
It's really Obata-sensei of manga fame (Death Note, Bakuman, Hikaru no Go).

Please please please English subtitles on the BD box!! Or an Aniplex of America import! I adore this series and would love a premium set for my collection :3

Please don't be a compilation please don't be a compilation. I loved the heck out of this series, so that artwork alone makes me excited. If it was all new animation I'd be a happy camper indeed. And I hope someone will eventually license this with Bandai gone :\

You think so? I couldn't really find much on them, but from what I saw I thought yet were just aping Obata's style (very closely). Hmm, I wonder if you're right.

I know so. One of the other people in that article was giving a panel at a US con a year or two ago and let us in on the secret. Obata's used that name in a couple other places too it seems (magazine covers it looks like).

Knowing that makes me like the designs even more/makes me sad there isn't an Obata drawn manga adaptation. I remember noticing the rectangular eye reflections everyone had, then seeing the exact same thing in Bakuman (I love when little design elements like that are uniform throughout an entire cast). I wonder if having his name officially attached would have made the series more popular, if only by a bit. I don't really have an idea of how big/small it was in Japan, though I'd imagine if there's a movie, it was fairly successful.
As for that image, just noticed the design updates to Takuto (boots, collar). Looks cool. Seeing Sugata and Wako in new outfits gives me some hope for it being all new animation, but I'm doubtful. That new Tauburn design is awesome too, but it's probably just an upgrade at the end of the movie or something (or as the studio probably calls it, "an excuse for a new toy," which I wouldn't mind).

Exactly what I was thinking. I loved the show and wish the set would have english subs on it.

I hope this movie reboot is more satisfying than the movie retelling of Macross Frontier...
Because Star Driver was kinda fun to watch, but I kept waiting for something to happen and it never really did...

When I saw this headline, my heart just started racing and when I saw the art......YESS!!!! GOOOODD!!! WE ARE GETTING MORE STAR DRIVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Digging the visual art, and Wako...just looks....so....HOT!
And like some of you mentioned Obata's name, Star Driver first caught my interest because the character design looks very much like Obata's simplified artstyle like in Bakuman

Oh, but there is! There's only one chapter that I can find, but apparently it ran a slightly simplified story for 24 weeks. If you search around, that first one's out there.
There's a chance it wasn't Obata who did it but from looking through it again...no, it was Obata who drew it. Nobody else can pull off creepy like that.

Oh sure. Maybe even current since we know Obata was involved for a fact. Could have assigned it to them because of Bakuman. Who knows. But at that point, do you really care?

Actually I would, its something I would like to know if its true or not and to look forward to see more work done by this artist(the former assistant).
