Yes, the middle chapters feature yet another hot girl who's interested in Tsukune, and she's not even particularly appealing:

Mizore is often agreed to be the best character, wherever you go on the web.

The next arc is where it really turns into an action (a great one at that), and doesn't revert to generic high school comedy as often. Towards the end of season 1, Ikeda has figured out what he wants to do, and it's a hell of a lot of fun.

Rosario + Vampire is one of those titles that, although I too see it's faults, I keep coming back for more. (I just received Vol. 6 from Right Stuf the other day) And a few other people must think that too because there was an earlier article here on ANN saying how it was up there in the graphic novel sales ranks.

I will say that at times I am pleasantly surprised at how beautifully detailed the artwork can be at times. Especially that young witch (whose name escapes me at the moment) who was the protege of witch of the knoll that started off this chapter.

And I would agree, if you've stuck with it this far, keep going. Volume Six takes actual plot lines up another notch.

I agree that volume 6 is much better!

I think that Mizore seems to get lost in the shuffle in the manga - honestly, the anime handled her character better - by introducing her earlier and making her ... slightly ... less weird (I mean, she's rarely even a part of the central plot in the manga - just literally hiding in the shadows stalking). Her popularity stems from the anime version, I'm sure.

After volume 6, though, I'm really happy where the plot is going!!

I agree that volume 6 is much better than volume 5. Volume 6 is one better volumes of the series so far.

It is a typical cookie cutter harem title. It really is. But it does at least have something of a plot. I mean at least compared to other current harem titles out there like He Is My Master or My Dearest Devil Princess. Plus I like personally reading to see which "monster of the week" gets introduced next. Still waiting on my mummy girl cheerleader or frankenstein jock heh.

"After all that buildup and the climactic battle against the Witch of the Knoll, maybe it was time to dial down and return to more familiar material. That's probably the best explanation for why this volume of Rosario+Vampire regresses to old, formulaic material instead of charging forward in a bold new story direction. Unfortunately, that's a disappointment for those who didn't like the old, formulaic stuff in the first place."

While it's a good review, I have to wonder about comments like this one. Lets face it, this is vol 5 of the series; why would you be still be reading it if you didn't a least like "...all that high school comedy stuff..." (I mean, assuming you're not assigned it as a reviewer)? Not really being critical, but I'm just wondering: if you don't like high-school romance/MotW, why would you subject yourself to this past Vol 1?

Rosario + Vampire is one of my favorite series also. Even though I can see all of it's faults (in both versions), I still love it and it's one of my favorite anime/manga series out there. I do agree though, that I prefer the anime Mizore more than the manga version, simply because she's more funny and likable, although she isn't my favorite character.

The rest of the manga is pretty great, if you thought GN 5 was a letdown. I plan on buying the volumes when I get the money, hopefully. I also hope they come out with more Rosario + Vampire anime, if not a third season than maybe an OAV or something.

You'll be eating those words when you reach the Snow City arc. Very Happy

Sorry, monster-of the-week is pretty much over. We do get new monsters, but they don't matter anymore. What matters is Anti-Thesis and Ghoul.

I've read every released manga of Rosario Vampire and it's decent. I don't really like the harem-style plotline, and I could do without the witches and the ice-girl (thats pretty much all of it I know!); but I really enjoyed the main first season story arc featuring Tsukune and Moka. Unfortunately R+V II reverts back to much of the annoying harem comedy. I also think it's time for Tsukune to make a choice and announce it already- we all know he really likes Moka! Finally, the manga is a bit darker and more mature than the anime; I think that it works better for the story which at least in season one built up to an epic ending. Here's to hoping R+V II can recapture that glory!

I actually hated volume 4, and find 5 refreshing. Not sure how I feel about the series in general, yet, but I do like the fact that the characters don't annoy me, even though they're clearly meant to be pandering.

Rosario+Vampie is a series that, despite it's harem backbone, does have people (including myself) that keep coming back for more. I can't say that it's the best read I've had in a while, 'cause as it's been pointed out, it does follows that typical harem/teeny boppery romance cliche that some have come to hate and love. Appreciate the artwork, and fightscenes do get interesting in the series so that's where it stands. I sort of guess that I'm just in the middle when it comes to Rosario. It ain't the best, but I get my laughs and action, so I'm a happy camper.

I'm currently only up to vol 4 at this point, so I've still got to get around to picking this up. Wink

It's a shame the anime is a complete failure because I've heard a lot of good things about the manga.

True, but vol 3 was good as well. Unfortunately this is a very harsh review. Sure it has the flaws, but it's still funny to read.probably cause i've been exposed with series that has a lot of fanservice, but it's still a decent series.Hopefully vol 6 will change their minds.
