These episodes cover the first two novels; the court ladies are the first, while the prince and Yukiya the second. The summer cour will cover the third. Since the original series ran six volumes, a second anime season would get us to a great ending point.
There's several short story collections, and the second series (set after a time skip) is ongoing. Each novel has a wildly different tone from the previous one, to the point of almost being different genres. You never know what you're gonna get next. Bringing up the connection to the feathered robe Noh play is an interesting point; it is the same kanji (羽衣) even if the reading is different. (Hagoromo is the play, while this is Ue.) A theme baked into the first novel's title but only tangentially mentioned in the anime is that the nobility look down on the kimono made from their feathers, preferring to dress themselves up in silks and finery--but wearing the feathered robes may be closer to a yatagarasu's natural state. There's a lot going on in this series, but one thing she seems particularly interested in is how the extremely sheltered lives noble women live affect their perceptions. The men often get frustrated with the ladies' inability to perceive a bigger picture their limited educations and social contacts have specifically prevented them from catching the slightest glimpse of. They may end up being a villain in the larger story, but from their perspective they are just doing everything they can for themselves and the people they've been allowed to care about. |

I am looking forward to finding out more about that monkey(?) thing that devoured the poor lady in episode 13…

Oh, I wasn't the only one who found the intro weird...
Anyways, I liked it a lot, is well written and characters make sense as do their actions. Not the greatest political drama ever, but if somebody asks me for one I will recommend it. |

For years now people have been talking about the "well running dry" in reference to the light novels yet-or-recently-to-be adapted (or licensed). So I never know quite what to think when an anime this good comes out, based on a novel series. Clearly there's still good water left, to furiously labor the metaphor, so why are we still stuck with so many dregs?
This is pretty much precisely the kind of novel series I always hope to see described when we get those "X announced Y new licenses" articles, but only very seldomly ever actually see. |

So I watched episode 13.
Not gonna lie, I was expecting spoiler[Asebi's heel turn] since episode 1, but, wasn't expecting it to be so evil. |

Because the people who consume the other light novels are much more voracious and less discerning. They'll read/watch anything that fits the template which makes for easy money/popularity. |
