I like the anime's because they're pretty good but could it be that it's because I can relate to the card game, which I play.

What do you guys think?

If you don't play the card game and is really into the anime, would you be interested in playing?

I have a rather large card collection although I've never played the game at all. I'm probably going to be getting rid of the collection though, seeing as I don't bask in cards like I used to. I've always enjoyed watching the anime. Enjoyed reading the manga more, but I still think that the series is an intriguing one.

I see... that's cool, I say keep your cards for the hell of it.

But if you still don't want them, sell them so you can get some money...I don't know.

Well, I may be getting rid of the Pokemon cards more than the Yugioh cards, who knows...

I've read some of the manga and watched the abridged series, and quite enjoyed both. Card game wise, all I play is Magic: the Gathering and Pokémon (and occasionally WoW when certain people force me to...). I guess the idea for Magic & Wizards comes partly from magic the gathering anyway...

I read up the rules of Yugioh, but I think I'll stick to Magic.

I think Takahashi did make a reference saying that he did base it off of Magic: The Gathering, but Magic & Wizards is in its own universe. Although he did not plan for things to turn out the way that it did. The original concept behind Magic & Wizards was that it was going to be like all the other games that came up in the manga series. It just so happened that he got a ton of letters from readers asking about the rules of the game and whether it was real or not. Thus the beginning of a multi-million dollar franchise.

I used to play the card game, but now I have it as 'just another card collection' which sits around and collects dust. Funnily enough though, I started watching the anime long before I started playing the card game. I loved the anime and when I started playing the card game, I loved the anime even more. This is due to the fact that I compared my competition regulated deck to those the characters used in the anime and determined whether I would win or not if it came down to a real life battle. ~Happy Days~

I do.

Though in my case, I used to play the TCG. I first got into the anime, then the cards came shortly thereafter. I initially didn't want to play it, but I gave in and bought both starter decks anyways, since I didn't want to feel left out during recess. Laughing

I sure had some fun times playing, though. After moving to a new school, I got my grade to play the game properly (i.e. with tributes, no more "I summon my Blue-Eyes White Dragon without tributes!"). I also obtained a card that could defeat the BEWD in one attack without equip magic cards or any other stat boosters, called Buster Blader. Because of that, it ended up being my favourite Yu-Gi-Oh! card (and it still is! Very Happy); it's also the reasoning behind my user name. Furthermore, I also started trying to build a competitive deck, which led me to follow the competitive metagame for a few years. I even tried played competitively in tournaments and regionals for a couple of years.

I finally stopped playing roughly two years ago, once I fully immersed myself in the anime/manga subculture. Asides from the occasional video game, I'm only willing to truly devote myself to one hobby, and once anime and manga became that hobby, I decided to stop playing Yu-Gi-Oh!. Asides from my interest on the TCG waning somewhat, I wanted to start buying DVDs and manga, and those aren't all necessarily cheap either, especially when you buy a lot.

Despite quitting the TCG, I'm still connected to the YGO franchise. I still watch and enjoy the anime (just caught up with GX, and I'm hoping that YTV picks up 5D's soon), and I'll still play the TCG games for the GBA/DS. I also occasionally try to keep myself up-to-date with the happenings of the TCG. (It sure is getting ugly at the moment with Upper Deck and Konami, isn't it?) I also hope to read all of the original manga someday. Though I'm not really not in a rush to do so, I'll admit, since I've already seen most of it through the anime.

Oh man, are they ever.

I have to ask, how long have you been playing, in terms of both years/months and set-wise?

I still have a friend who's into the game, and he's not even bothering to play in the current format and sticking to playing online (you probably know what I mean if you're into the YGO TCG) since the cards are so damn expensive nowadays. Honestly, the prices as of late make the prices during the pre-ban list/IOC days look like chump change.

I was especially involved with the TCG right when it came out- I remember dragging my dad to every card shop in 3 towns trying to find one that had the starter decks on release day. At my peak I went to 3 tourneys a week, and was a member of the Uppderdeck Demo team/ Tournament Jugding program, specializing in Yugioh of course. (I actually got some good cards trading with the Yugioh Mall Tour guys becuase of that.)I remember when McDonald's had Yugioh cards, I made myself sick eating Happy meals collecting them all.

But all things pass, sadly- all 3 shops I played at went out of business, and my new job didn't leave me any real time to find anyplace new, so I fell out of it. I still have all my old decks, which haven't been tournament-legal for years, and my card binder with about 90% of the cards available at the time. It was all worth it, though- I had fun, and I met some great people- like my boyfriend. Wink I actually still carry my Judge card around to this day...

used to like it back in the day, but the series picked up the tendency to go on and on. Besides no one that used to like it, that I know, like the series anymore. I'm not fond of it myself anymore. So nope I do not like it and I do not play the card game, although I have a good size collection from like 3-5 years ago.

I use to play the game but I stoped because no one would play with me. But I still love the show. But I just wish it had a better plot and was less predictable.

Been playing since fall 2004? like when Magicians Force came out...but I had cards long before that...kids needed these cards back then.

I never quit, just in and out of dueling hiatus. I love the current format, especially when I got back into this one, my deck was crushed by tele-dad(1500$$ deck, yea wow rofl.)

I built a fairly cheap deck now, which I am going to a local tourney to see how I am.

Never got into the card game, but I loved the anime. (The first YuGiOh, not much GX) Haven't read the manga. Unfortunitly because of the economy, wanting to buy other anime as well, and the fact that YGO is so long, I sadly had to let it go. I may get back to it, after all, it was a very good anime, and I have good memories with it.
