Airing season two as a single movie may have been a good idea.
From E! Online earlier today:
***
The feature-length, Jackson-voiced, DVD-bound toon was watched by only 710,000 Sunday night on Spike TV, a network that averaged 1.2 million prime-time viewers for the week.
***
While E! is disappointed in those numbers (as may be Spike), keep in mind the first season of Afro Samurai, which aired in early 2007, averaged 696,000 viewers. So this was a marginal bump up.

probably cause no one knew it was on. TV ratings don't really matter in this case, it will do way better in DVD sales next week.

Well, it's probably fair to assume, given the ratings boost, most people who watched the first season on Spike two years ago knew it was on.
Not sure how many more viewers Spike would have expected for it ....

the reason is they didn't advertise enough for it, i happened to be channel surfing and caught it 3/4 the way thought, i had no idea it was coming out that specific night, i ended up dling it from (text removed) and watched it like 4 hours after it aired.

Heck, if it got more viewers than the first season, then it did okay for its performance. But the other person is right in saying that DVD sales are what matters. Everybody will know about the series that way, in a sense. There is more visibility when it is in the stores, not just on TV where not everybody likes to turn on the tube.

You can never expect much ratings from an anime in the first place. I think that the fact that it was a movie made it easier for people to watch though, so that probably helped. And I'm predicting that "Best selling anime of the year" goes to.... Afro Samurai: Resurrection! I think it did pretty good.
