We had a thread on this a good long time ago, and I forgot to ever post pictures of my chosen method for storing those freebie pencil boards that come with DVDs every so often. Rather than post in a 2-year old thread, I figured a new one was in order (the original's here, if you're interested.)
I decided pencilboards would make a great collectible for me. They're relatively cheap, pretty, and easy to store- the trick was how. This is what I came up with: Album cover Yeah, I know it's boring. I'm working on it. Inside picture 1 Inside picture 2 The boards are attached to the paper inserts of the scrapbooking pages with clear photo corners. Inside picture 3 For 2-sided boards, I used a cutting board and excato knife to make an opening around the board edges and photo corners. it works really well, actually. Inside picture 4 Inside picture 5 It's an 8.5 x 11 album, which hold both mini and full sized boards just right. Close up corner 1 Close up corner 2 Better shots of what the corners look like. It does take a little practice to place the photo corners, they aren't designed to work with something as thick as a pencil board. Once you get the hang of it, it's easy work. That's my setup- anyone else do anything special with these? |

That looks great. Nice job! I haven't thought about doing anything with my pencil boards. They are all still packed in with the DVDs they came with, but I really like your idea.
One comment on photo corners learned from putting together a few photo albums. Sometimes it's easier to slip them over the corners of the photo (or the pencil board in this case) and then stick the whole thing on the page of the album instead of trying to stick them on the page in just the right place and then put the picture in them. I don't know how that will work with the thicker pencil boards, but it might be worth a try. |

What are these things even used for? Sure they may look cool, but the only useful one I've seen came with my Captain Harlock DVDs because they interlocked with each to be free standing. I'd rather have a more useful extra than these.

Thanks for the compliments ![]() The problem with the photo corners is the board is too thick, so it pops off unless held in place. Basically, you have to do each corner one at a time, holding the piece on until it's stuck down. Takes a couple tries to do well, but once you've got it, it's easy.
They're for making a smooth, solid writing surface. You'd put one under your paper when writing on a roughed-up desk, or between pages of a notebook so you don't indent the next sheet. You can actually buy plain colored ones, the anime ones are intended pretty much as collectibles (kind of like a character-shaped mousepad.) |

Using a photo album is a good idea; I have been picking up cheap picture frames and using them to display some of my favorites along with other anime related pictures I had picked up. Nice job DuelLadyS I like what you have done.

Sounds like a cool idea!
The only thing is that lately it seems that anime DVDs are not coming with pencil boards. I only have five or six myself. All from the Read or Dream (AKA Read or Die the TV) anime. |

Haha! I just realized from looking at one of the last pictures (the R.O.D. ones) what the plastic cards that came in the ROD boxes were!
