Checking to see if Bestbuy.com was lying about them not having the Lucky Star #5 special edition.

The anime aisle was vastly changed from last week.
EVERY special edition or single volume with an art box had been removed, only singles and slimpack box sets were left. This freed up at least a third of the ainme aisle. Though an effort had been made to spread what they did have out a bit to cover the shelves.

I could not find anyone to ask about if this was a shift in policy, but the delay in getting Lucky Star 5 has me a bit worried that this may be a shift in their anime stocking policy. (enough for me to order it on the last day of last week's Thursday special at rightstuf). Best Buy usually had the Lucky Star/Haruhi stuff out a week or two early, not a week late.

Any changes at your local Best Buy's?

Wouldn't be suprised, time's are hard it seems right now and they want to sell what sells, and cut back what, really doesn't sell for the mass majority Sad

I hope the FYE by me who literally has two whole lines of shelves and a panel of various other goods hasn't changed since I last went there.

Best Buy is scaling back on anime in a massive scale nation wide. You probably won't be able to find the last volume of Lucky Star in-stores at all. This is going to be painful for the anime industry.

See This AoD/Mania thread for more information.

I hate to even think it, but...will it get to the point where when you want to get an anime, the only thing you can say is "To Amazon we go!"?

Bear in mind, I don't have anything against buying online, but it is depressing. Sad

Hmm that does sound bad for you. The store near me had a little more anime than usual last time I went. I will have to check and see next time I go.

That's an upleseant thought. Best Buy and Fry's are the two places i shop the most for anime, it's a bummer to hear they're minimizing stock. If it's because of the economy then i could imagine Fry's doing the same thing, espeically since Best Buy i believe (although don't hold me to it, it could just as easliy be wrong) is a bigger company (more money) than Frys... if they're cuttin' down, Frys'll only cut down that much, if not more. Yikes. Looks like i'll start buyin' from my local anime shop, although for some reason i've never really liked the air there... people there are never happy, it's like you walk in and suddenly everything is sad... even the lighting is blue.

I was buying less and less from Best Buy, so I can't help but feel this is probably an extension of others who also made personal decisions similar to mine. And I have to say, I'm not that sorry for it even though I don't like it. Ultimately the pricing, availability of titles, etc. of online shops just far exceeds B&M.

My anime section at Best Buy still looks the same. A lot of their special releases in my store were moved to the bigger box dvd section on the very last row.

I was planning to buy Lucky Star online anyway, its $25.41 on Amazon.

Woot 1900 posts!

I sometimes get anime from Bestbuy, but I usually get most of my anime online. Now that I'm waiting for TRSI or other places to have sales now, I have to keep an eye out for deals for stuff that I am looking for.

Honestly not surprised. Most of the time Bestbuy and FYE are the worst places to buy anime. Almost everything is cheapr from Amazon, Righstuf, DD, RAC, etc.

Only been a handful of times bestbuy has had cheaper prices and those were usually clearances

I agree. It sucks to not be able to have the titles in store because that's where the real casual and impulse buys happen.

Still, considering the difference in pricing online and the fact that online sales are expected to just keep growing over time (predictions are traditional retail is going to be heavily impacted over the next few years as the Internet grows in importance) maybe it's best we all embrace the online purchasing.

I do the vast majority of my buying online and can buy much more that way. Best Buy is a very nice store but they're too busy promoting Blu-Ray right now.

My local Best Buy's section looked exactly the same as it has for the past few months, but who knows how long that will last.

I assume I'm not the only one who discovered my fandom via means of the internet. Having become used to bricks-and-mortar failing to meet my needs, it feels all the more appropriate to buy online. I've read of people coming across desirable out-of-print titles lying dormant in local stores though, which may not be the best of situations from a business perspective but is certainly something positive for those lucky enough to find them.

Yeah, and it's not like most anime companies can afford Blu-ray licenses for their shows.

....Of course, some idiot thought it was worth wasting several hundred thousand pressings of BDs for Disaster Movie. Laughing

I haven't gotten that lucky with finding OOP stuff in stores. Mainly that's why I go online for stuff like that I have a better chance of finding something, and I have been lucky to avoid getting bootlegs of things when getting my stuff my Amazon.com Usually I only go that route for stuff that OOP. I'm waiting for some of the prices on there from sellers for Welcome to the NHK singles from the sellers before I get them.
