The series covers the first light novel series so you're right that it feels like there's even more, there's an entire second series which the show doesn't have a chance to touch on. In any case, I remember liking this when it first came out so I need to remember to grab it sometime and shall check out the dub after the praise here.

This show was immensely frustrating for me, because it was right on the edge of being one of the better-plotted fantasy shows out there, and then utterly refused to be one.

The plotting seemed to indicate someone who didn't have the confidence or good judgment to run with what he had. For example, spoiler[the deteriorating relationship between Ryner and Sion was one of the best-done friends-become-enemies plots I've seen in some time. Neither has to go nuts or break character for them to simply reach situations in their lives where their friendship has to take a back seat to their ideals. Sion's need to be the king in the eyes of his subjects and Ryner's search for an identity put them at sharp odds without too much contrivance. And despite being so well-guided, the show instead finishes off with a completely unnecessary "oh, by the way, ancient prophecy and stuff," like it was X or something.] It cheapened the character development throughout the whole show, and felt like it was thrown in because the writer lacked the confidence in what he'd created, or didn't have the judgment to recognize it.

I did like that the show basically said "yeah, magic, generic fantasy world, let's get going." It didn't need much world-building, and didn't make the mistake of getting bogged down trying it.

This show really took me by surprise. I went in with low expectations and really enjoyed it far more than I thought I would (the dub really helped). The characters made it for me. It's a shame nothing was resolved, but I do hope it gets a 2nd season at some point! Very Happy

I can't tell if you're trying to make a joke or seriously saying that. Confused

LotLH always seemed like something I should like, but for some reason I could never sit through the first episode.

I think I watched this about a year and half ago. Was entertaining series although wasn't something I'll remember heart by for a long time.

Besides the ridiculous title the show had a schizophrenic quality for me when I watched it. Is it lighthearted and not very deep shonen fantasy or is it dark serious mature stuff? It doesn't seem to know which it wants to be in the first opening episodes. The only thing that stands out initially is the characters of Ryner and Ferris as they are a little bit more fleshed out and their oddball personalities make them interesting to watch. I almost continued watching because of them. However, after about 5-6 episodes it failed for me to rise above the miss-mash of tropes and poor writing, so off it went to the discard pile. Based on what I saw I think Theron's C+ is about right.

I can't say I wasn't a little disappointed with the ending. It's mainly because the last episode seemed to be setting up the story for another season that didn't happen. Some anime adaptations are able to find appropriate stopping points like Spice & Wolf for example. Both seasons of the anime resolve the current story arc while leaving room for more to be animated. However the story in LotLH is too ambitious and expansive to be able to do that. In the end there is so much left unresolved that I was left wanting more. I guess that's better than not wanting anymore though. I really did enjoy the anime. I really liked the characters and the combination of fantasy and political thriller. I just wish there was more of it.

It's funny how I didn't think too much of the shifts between lighthearted moments and the darker storylines/graphic violence. Watching anime really has desensitized me to those kinds of shifts to the point where I rarely give them much thought these days. Laughing

Don't you know that all reviews are opinion?

Anyway, it's too bad to hear that this show has a non-ending. I was hoping that despite it's ridiculous name it would be a good fantasy show since those are few and far between. Maybe I'll pick this up during a sale or something and lower my expectations so that I'm not too annoyed when nothing gets resolved and just enjoy the ride.

That's how I approached it. I really enjoyed the ride even though the destination was weak.

Yes she was, very much so.

And who would have guessed that dragon would have a snide comment about someone else's tastes in characters.

Truly, a shocking, never before seen occurrence.

On the other hand, I fully expect that anyone who's even just slightly aware of my tastes could probably work out that I'd like Feris (and her sister, come to think of it) a lot.

You are free to use your condescending sarcasm on me, but try to put a little effort into things.

The OPs and EDs aren't memorable? The second OP, both in the art direction and ESPECIALLY the sound direction, is amazing! When I first saw it, I couldn't stop watching it.
I thoroughly enjoyed this show, so I pre-ordered it as soon as it was available. Chances of a second season are slim, but I hope that, one day, they'll surprise is.
I'd also like the LNs to be localized, but I don't think that'll ever happen.
