Whether or not the series is good, Anime has had good, likable heroes, and then you've got the poorly written ones that the writer thinks we should support, but we end up hoping the Big Bad rips their organs out. So, posters of ANN, whom do you consider the worst Anime Protagonists? Again, you can still like the anime they're from.

Now, I won't be putting in Shinji Ikari because I can see why he's an emo. As for Makoto Ito, just by how SD ended, you could tell that we were not supposed to like him.

InuYasha- Where do I begin with this Final Fantasy reject? Actually, calling him that would be an insult to Tidus, Squall, Vaan, and Lightning (the most hated FF heroes). He makes his grand debut blowing a shrine up and killing the people inside. Or maybe that was Naraku? Takahashi makes it confusing sometimes. Even if it was Naraku, it was still implied that he killed people in the past. He is whinier than Shinji Ikari, and unlike Shinji, he doesn't whine because of his tragic past. He whines because he was mildly inconvenienced. His actions make him seem like a spoiled child throwing a tantrum. Also, I hate how people call Kagome a bitch for sitting him. 9 times out of 10, he asks for it. After a big epic battle and some un-needed ship-teasing, he provokes the argument after the slightest hint that he may want to plow her. Next, I find his reason for seeking the Jewel to be really bland. So, what's next if he becomes a full-demon? The guy can take down demons the size of mountains when he's a half-breed. I seriously doubt power is the question. Finally, I think the biggest reason I hate him is the fact that he's a child abuser. Yeah, we're supposed to be annoyed by Shippo, but he's a child. He's supposed to act that way. InuYasha belts him like a schoolyard bully. Yes, because I really want to root for somebody who beats up small children. I believe for a fact that if he ever has kids, he'd throw them against the wall for spilling his drink and threaten to smother them if they ever tell Kagome. Yes, I genuinely believe he's that cruel. I know what you're thinking: "Ron the Death Eater, much?" Supposedly, he gets better, but when his character development occurs about 500 chapters in, that doesn't exactly work in his favor. At that point, the damage has been done. Redemption as a character is out of reach.

Naota from FLCL- I don't exactly hate him, but I find him to be too brooding for someone his age. First, he complains that nothing exciting ever happens, and then when it does, he complains about that. Then again, it's Gainax. I'm probably missing something symbolic here aside from the whole "growing up sucks" story.

Keitaro from Love Hina- People call moe girls helpless? Shinobu has more back-bone than this gimp. He's their freaken boss, and yet he lets his employees kick his ass. It's called a "pink slip." You should consider handing them one. He gets whipped even up to spoiler[his wedding]. It wouldn't surprise me if he started making up lies for his black-eyes while Naru throws whiskey bottles at him for not making her dinner on time.

Kyon from Haruhi Suzumiya- While Haruhi is the title character (and one of my most hated ones), the story is told from this lobotomized twit's perspective. I know slapping spoiler[god] will not end well, but even before that ass-pull.. er, I mean, plot twist was revealed, he just sat there while Haruhi raped women and stole computers.

Kira from Gundam SEED- His character can be summed up in one sentence. "STOP FIGHTING OR I'LL KILL YOU ALL!!!"

I'd argue about Inuyasha- he was supposed to be an immature jerk (hell, who told that the protagonist must be sympathetic?). He was unstable for whole life- sightly above humans, much lover than demons, rejected by both. Later his main advantage is his father's sword that knows he can lost at some point. He was to be fully a part of one race and simply aim at higher prize. And Shippo was stupid kid in medieval Japan- time and place where nobody was kind to stupid kids.

SF and fantasy setting in terms of character's personality usually give many excuses that can be considered good reason for their behavior. So I tend to be forgiving toward all emo princes and proud warrior race girls since I assume that fighting for survival, throne and revenge can heavily influence their personality. I'm much lesser prone to that when it comes to anime set in real life, where I know most of the difficulties that meet the characters and usually tell that they are soft like snails without shells. For example Godai and That Woman in Maison Ikkoku. You are adults. He lives, she lives, together they can reduce the costs for person and live even cheaper. Sit and talk for once, don't spend whole chapters wondering about situations that can be explained in several simple sentences that people living together tends to exchange from time to time.

William from Victorian Romance Emma- little explanation. In my school years I used to play in amateur theater and act the part of maid in love with young master. Who was the father of her unborn child. Who was lazy, careless person dominated by his abusive mother, who after short fight and even shorter talk about being cut from the money agreed for solving the problem with denying all his promises and paying the maid for silence.
Reading and watching Emma I recalled that play and was sure that if Will's parents weren't so nice it would end in similar disaster. Fr 90% of the time he is walking around with painful face and have exactly enough strength for one argument with parents. Whaaaat a hero. Ps. Hindu prince with harem of beauties as as an advocate of inter class marriage bypassed the borders of hypocrisy.

Kobato is a good example. The main heroine is presented as a pumpkin-head who can trip over her own feet and somehow it is supposed to be funny. In all the episodes I have seen the creators tried to make the audience laugh by making her look like a clumsy fool. It is not fun, it is more akin to humiliation.
