Short Titles. They only aquired the half with the longer name.
Ex. Peace Maker
Peacemaker Kurogane
Mythical Detective Loki
Mythical Detective Loki Ragnarok
Is this a new trend? I hope not because I want to know what happens in the first halves.

Actually they did this with Kagerou-Nostalgia: The Resurrecton.
Perhaps because it's more "new" since they feel older manga won't attract buyers.

They are both the same. They aren't different titles.

If you are referring to Alchemist449's post, then you are incorrect.
PM Kurogane is the sequel of PM
Loki Ragnarok is the second half of Loki (changed publisher - as with Trigun/ Trigun Max).

Actually, all of these changed Publishers. Kagerou-Nostalgia, Peace Maker, and Loki all used to be published in the same GanGan/Enix magazine. I heard that that particular branch of the mangazine was discountinued. Then somehow MagGarden got the manga-ka to do continuations of the manga in thier magazine Comic Blade.
As to this being a trend, I believe it was just a stupid move made by ADV. They licensed all these titles in "bulk" and didn't look into the titles at all.

While I can understand why that would bother you, my understanding is that getting the rights to publish the first parts of the manga are quite difficult and can only be done via the manga-ka themselves. It's unfortunate that things can turn like that, and ADV may have obtained the licenses in hopes that they could convice the rights holders that they will sell well. (or may even use the sales of the 2nd parts as evidence that it would be a good idea to get the first parts of Loki and PM.)

From what I know it's all about licensing. ADV most likely could not obtain the first half of the series as the licenses couldn't be bought from a company that has ceased to exist. Remember these were published before Enix was bought by Square. What I hope will happen is once the license/copyright expires and say Mag-Garden obtains them ADV will have access to them.
Anyone realize we have a similar situation with Mamotte Shugogetten/Raijin?.

Normally, when a company dissolves, a clause in the original contract between the company and the manga-ka will automatically revert the rights back to the manga-ka. That shouldn't be a problem.
