Really? That's a new one to me.

Family Guy is bloody ingenius. It's cast is indeed different than that of the Simpsons (the only real similarity I can see in terms of roles is Peter and Homer... and they're still decently different).

The list is somewhat messed up, I agree. Anime and western animation aren't all that different, but it's more of the genres themselves. Most of the top titles are comedy, while there are a few drama and adventure titles around as well, they don't compare that well. You can't justify that the Simpsons is better than Spirited Away because "it's funnier", nor vice versa because Spirited Away has "a deeper storyline/message". Titles aim for different audiences, and different reactions. I guess all in all, they're mostly all for entertainment, but they still don't compare that well with each other.

Exactly. I'm glad someone agrees with me that apples shouldn't be compared to oranges. I know that some of my friends like to compare an action game to an RPG game, and that sort of mentality drives me nuts.

Family Guy was originally canceled on Fox because of bad ratings because, surprise surprise, people thought it ripped off the Simpsons. I believe Fox put this quote from a critic on the DVD box set (I'm paraphrasing): "Peter Griffin is who you would get if you put Homer Simpson, Hank Hill, and Cartman in a blender!" (That was supposed to be a compliment, apparently.) It was as though Simpsons was the only adult comedy cartoon, and any other adult comedy cartoon was ripping it off. To be honest, those are the only two big cartoons that feature a family in a suburban setting. Now how many similar sitcoms have we seen trying to rip off shows like Seinfeld and Everybody Loves Raymond? People assume that animated comedies are mostly ripoffs too. I wouldn't be surprised if someone thought that American Dad was a ripoff of Family Guy done by a rival studio.

Interesting. Tom and Jerry get #2!? If you look at the results all the Looney Tunes/Merry Melodies characters are seperated in the list. I'm sure if they catagorized all the characters into one cartoon show it would be in the top 3.
It's a bad survey.
Animaniacs and Pinky and the Brain aren't even on the list.
And what about Johnny Quest?
