Saw the "real" first episode today. Hmmm, they cut out the entire dream sequence where that cat gets absorbed into Ichigo/Zoe.

Probably a time edit. The show ended at exactly 8:31 am, so it ran a little long. This is my post on the episode from another site.
Quote: | Okay, I decided since I woke up early today after a Xenosaga marathon I should check out the English dub 4Kids did of Tokyo Mew Mew, Mew Mew Power. Considering I never saw any of the original, I wanted to see if the English voice cast was any good. Here's the rundown:
8:00-8:08- Spent time audibly retching.
8:09-8:14- Suddenly heard a voice sounding like Goku and spent 5 minutes trying to figure out if it was him.
8:15-8:18- Debated if I was watching Sailor Moon.
8:19-8:22- Debated if I was watching CardCaptors.
8:23- Finally decided I was watching both.
8:24-8:28- More retching ![Razz](/bbs/phpBB2/images/smiles/icon_razz.gif) after viewing another transformation scene. Jeez, DO THEY NOT LEARN FROM SAILOR MOON?
8:30- Scanned credits for Goku's VA and didn't see it.
You know even though it may seem like I hated it, I kinda liked it. I don't envision myself watching it every Saturday, but I think 4Kids did an OK job AT LEAST from a standalone viewpoint. Now, I have to see it when they start editing stuff. <_<
|
Time edits don't bother me if they don't edit important material, and I don't get caught up with the whole "Oh that doesn't sound like the Japanese VA" stuff. Different country, different VA's as long as they sound good.

Do not be ignorant. 4Kids is really the only company that destroys anime; most normal anime companies (ADV, CPM, Funi, Viz, etc.) offers subtitled, totally uneditted dvds. Anime getting licensed by normal companies is a good thing. -_-[/b] |
I'm not being ignorant, I've seen many times that they have killed an anime, by several different companies, ADV, Funi, Viz included. It's a shame what they do to the great animes. It should be a requirement when they license anime that they have to keep the content the same and no major changes. And it's your opinion, that it's a good thing that "normal" companies license anime. Everyone that I know that is into anime feels otherwise. And lastly, what is so normal about say for example, ADV. NOTHING!!! |
Funi & 4Kids are the worst offenders. ADV & most other companies have moved away from the American script totally altering the original plot. ADV does change line to make them culturally acceptable here-straight translations of many punchlines in comedy shows would leave the average American fan thinking "huh?" & the show would fail as a comedy becauss that suggests the ability to create laughter without having to explain the joke.
What's so wrong with Saiyuki, DNAngel, Chrono Crusade, GetBackers, Gantz, Gravion, Eden's Bowy, Excel, Final Fantasy Unlimited, Full Metal Panic, Kaleido Star, King of Bandits Jing, Orphen, Peacemaker Kurogane, Magical Shopping Arcade Abenoboshi, Martian Successor Nadesico, Pretear, Puny Puny Poemy, Rahxephon, Saint Seiya, Saiyuki? I could name many more. And I mean what ADV did to it, not that the show as made is good or bad. Over 200 of the dvds in my collection are ADV & it is one of the better companies. Maybe 300-haven't counted companies since I had 800 dvds & now the total's over 1000 & I know ADV titles make up a larger percentage, but Funimation's, Viz's & Geneon's 3 ep per dvd standard pushed them higher in the numbers.
As for MewMew Power, I'm still getting used to it. I don't like Sean Schemmel as Ryo/Elliot--he just sounds too old for what looks like a teen(I believe he is in the same age group as the girls-can't recall if the manga indicated he was older than they were. Keiichiro seemed older-more Ryo's guardian/caretaker as well as servant.) I'm not one of the avid Tokyo Mew Mew fans--the manga was ok, although it seemed very by-the-books--like they looked at various magical girl team titles & picked out what seemed to be the popular elements. I was hoping for someone else to license it so we'd get the original VA's uncut since I pick a lot of anime by the Japanese VA's(not unlike going to a movie because one likes the actors in it) & the cute guys. In the spread in Newtype, Ryo & Keiichiro looked nice & the cast included Hikaru Midorikawa & Megumi Ogata(as a boy-love her male voices) so I checked out the manga which listed Kazuki Yao & Katsuyuki Konishi among the cast, so even if the American dub was lousy, there's enough talent on the Japanese side to make it worth buying, but with 4Kids landing it, the question is will we get anything beyond dub-only dvds. I'm still perturbed they've suspended Shaman King dvds since I'm waiting for Takehito Koyasu. As against bootlegs as I am, I have almost bought the bootleg Shaman King just to get Faust.
