and lets not forget the Sailor V manga which is a spin off of Sailor Moon which took place before Mina/Sailor Venus joined the Sailor Scouts. |
I'm not sure that really qualifies as a spin-off. I think Sailor V was made before Sailor Moon and it is supposed to be canon. If so, then it wouldn't qualify as a spin-off. |
Yes, Sailor V was definitely made before Sailor Moon. As far as I know, Naoko Takeuchi didn't even consider doing much with the other sailor senshi until her editor suggested it. It is also completely canon, there is one episode in the anime that is about Minako's time in London, and almost no instances at all in the manga about it, although once in a while Minako uses some of her Sailor V gadgets (the crescent mirror, hee hee)!

Thanks so much, psychotim, for that Simpsons reference. I almost forgot about Wiggum, P.I. and The Love-Matic Grampa.
I'm shocked to hear of Angel Links and its (seemingly thin) connection to Outlaw Star. I didn't know that the original show garnered enough interest to lead to a spinoff. Outlaw Star is a sentimental favorite of mine, despite the completely laughable "grappler ships."

Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha is actually a spin-off of a short OVA series called Triangle Heart (which was based ona game, I believe). In this case, the spin-off seems to be far more popular than the original. |
Ya, the spin-off was definately more popular then the show it was bases off of, but I really thought that Triangle-Heart was good, I loved this, it made a real impression on me with the way they did the action scenes.
And I thought that in Lyrical Nanoha, her bro and sis should of jumped in there to help, I mean after watching what they can do in the OVA's about them, they could've kicked some ass.
OH and Winter Garden was a spin-off of Di Gi Charat. Eww....

AD Police Files is a spin-off of Bubblegum Crisis, in both iterations. The original AD Police Files takes place before the old BGC OVAs, and is kind of a Ghost in the SAC-like series of cautionary tales about technology. My favorite episode: "The Man Who Bites His Tongue." This featured a man who'd been mechanized to such a degree that his only remaining tactile sensation was in his mouth, and he'd bite his tongue every so often, just to be able to feel something. Pretty creepy.
