I really adore Izumi. I don't think his voice will translate well into English. I like Megumi Ogata's work on that.
If you think about it, Izumi's charm could seriously lighten if a man dubs his voice, and it'd be hard to find a female voice actor who can get it right. If played by a man, he might not sound sadistic enough, and if played by a woman, he might sound queer. I like Izumi because he sounds a little feminine while still being manly. The dub might not capture the boyish manliness that is Izumi (-_-;; hard to take myself seriously when I say things like that :p).
I also think that while Meroko can sound a little overwhelming/annoying, she's still ridiculously cute. I'm betting the dub will remove a large amount of cuteness and reduce her to pure annoyance.
Takuto and Mitsuki's voices, aside from their singing merits, don't necessarily sound that out of the ordinary and can probably be dubbed less painfully. However, I wouldn't be surprised if the dub featured two seperate voices for each of them - one for speaking and one for singing. And I also wouldn't be surprised if they sounded nothing alike.
Then again, I don't care who dubs it, as long as it gets done. The sooner I have a DVD release, the sooner I have higher-res video to love and cherish for the rest of time.

Oh please don't say that. Even though it was sarcasim thats a scary thought. I mean who would want to think aobut a company that usually is compaired to a steaming pile to dub this anime. From what I have seen of the anime subbed it looks really good and I hope that it won't be distorted, altered, edited, and cut up atleast not too much.

And yah I have to agree with that because I love loved the Furuba songs, they were really beautiful . Also I totally agree about FUNanimtion on Furuba and Fullmetal Alchemist!!! I absolutely love FMA!! I'm addicted and Furuba is jsut a really beautiful series I want to watch more.
I just hope that this anime is done justice.

While Furuba's dubbed songs were a close match to the originals, I like them better in Japanese. I don't see what's so impressive about the dubbed versions when it would have been classier to leave them in Japanese. I don't think the average American is going to watch Fruits Basket on Fox, you know what I mean?
Anyone in the western hemisphere who chooses to seek out animes (What is the plural of anime, anyway? It seems to me like there would be no 's'. Or perhaps an 's' that one doesn't pronounce. Like the way 'animeau' is said the same as its plural counterpart 'animeaux'. I guess French doesn't really apply, though...) such as Furuba and Full Moon ... is generally not the type of person who would be close-minded to hearing a little Japanese.
And THINK about it! Full Moon ... is about a Japanese Idol! The entire concept is foreign and it would be plain inconsistent to change the language of the songs. I mean, we KNOW it's set in Japan. The only rationale for dubbing at all is that subtitles distract from the visual side of things - in essence, comprehension. That's my opinion, anyway.

2005 is definitely the marathon year of licenses.
I'm certainly looking forward to hearing Mitsuki voice.
Myco (a.k.a. Changin' My Life) had a good voice for Mitsuki regulat speech, but for the songs it's okay, but sounds rather deep to me, however the songs sound marvellous nonetheless!
I am certainly most looking forward to the songs they will put on English version.
But since that Viz had obtained the license, I won't be expecting my favorite seiyuu in the cast, i.e. those folks who have dubbed many anime licensed by Bandai Ent. and Geneon. |
Let's not get ahead of ourselves here. I'm thrilled that the manga license has been picked up, but the amazon link is only the the first volume of the manga, not anything else. (yet)
Still, I do look forward to it, either way.

That's one of the happiest things I've heard in awhile! Full Moon is my absolute favorite, and I've been wanting them to license it forever! I have the manga in Japanese, but can barely read it, so I wanted it in English! Ugh, for the anime (if that's ever licensed) I hope they don't dub it. Myco/CML is one of my favorite artists/groups ever and the songs wouldn't sound as good at all. Of course, it's a definate possibility they will, because music is a huge part of the show. I didn't like the Fruits Basket dubs of the music, I thought they were rather off-key sounding...Anyway, I hope that Viz has actually licensed Full Moon, that would make my dayu!

The Full Moon wo Sagashite manga got licensed? Yay!! I was really happy when the Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne manga got licensed, it's great to see that some of Arina Tanemura's series are getting licensed in America!! I already own the first 2 volumes of Full Moon in Japanese, and have read the rest of the series online...I'm really happy that Viz picked up Full Moon wo Sagashite!! Now, some company has to get the anime here in America ^^.

Yeah, I was waiting for Full Moon to get licensed for a LONG time, I mean its been overlooked far to long yet crap like Evil's Return manages to get licensed.
However, I hope VIZ dont crap it up like they did with all their SJ books. Since I dont think this is a shojo beat title, hopefully they will treat it like Alice 19th which I thought was done well.

Well, since anime is a Japanese word (or adaption of an English word anyway) and the Japanese language doesn't really have plurals, I think it makes sense for English speakers to use "anime" as both a singular and plural noun. We have "deer"(singular) and "deer" (plural) in English, so it shouldn't be to hard to use "anime" the same way as well (and "animes" does sound weird!). Then again, I've accidently said "mangas" more times than I'd like to admit, so whatever use seems the most natural in English is probably the best way.
Err, now on to the actual topic *sweatdrop* I've heard so much about Full Moon wo Sagashite that, even though I haven't read it yet, I'm really excited about the Viz announcement. Thank God it's not another 20+ volume series that'll drain my wallet and my patience (Basara.....Angel Sanctuary....sigh).

i'm 100% serious about 4kids getting the license for the anime. I don't care. Dubfans seems to hate us subfans, so I'm just going to throw out the venom at you people. If you want to watch this show, watch it with the original Japanese audio. Otherwise, deal with whatever dubbing it gets. 4kids would have the most entertaining dub for me, since I can easily watch it without caring. While anyone else, they would try to make it as similar to what I actually like that, it would just bug me to no ends. I don't give a rats arse about One Piece from 4kids, because it isn't my One Piece. It's like Cardcaptors. Totally different show from CCS. So I don't care. Not only that, for a dub of Full moon to work, it would have to translate over to an american audience whole-heartedly. If it was half-assed (trying to keep some of the Japanese aspects to it) it would be confusing. If you want that portion of it, you might as well just watch it with original audio and subs. I don't care about localization for these shows as long as the original product is there for my consumption.
So here's to hoping 4kids gets the dub license. Also, I would love to have this thing on saturday mornings so the most amount of kids can have the chance to watch it. Everyone needs a little full moon in their life.

You're sick!
I would give it a dub for the people with Digital Cable services and The Anime Network. Keep the songs Japanese. Localizing it is a waste of time, effort and money. Especially considering the size of the audience.
If they were to expand the audience and throw Full Moon on Fox or CN, localizing it would be cheapening it. Although... If Full Moon got really popular, it'd be interesting to see how American Pop retards respond (Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan). One of them might even start their OWN show and have it in a competing slot with Full Moon (or pretend they have a terminal illness to regain attention... Like Full Moon would ever get THAT popular).
I don't know what it takes to get people to take anime seriously (those who don't want to, I mean). My mother is constantly coming up next to me and mocking whatever I'm watching without reason. But her ex-boyfriend, this guy who lived with us for eight or nine years, used to love watching Cowboy Bebop and Hellsing with me. Hell, he even liked I! My! Me!. So I think that, as we say at work, "Once you try it, you're gonna buy it," or perhaps the less relevant, "Don't think about it, don't go home without it!"
BECAUSE people who like anime appreciate it and BECAUSE people like my mother are going to call it silly nomatter what ("A bcartoon about Dracula? With JAPANESE voices?! Sarah, that guy is like ten feet tall! What Japanese man is ten feet tall???"), anime should be tailored the likes of those who like it.
This shouldn't be John Kerry trying to appeal to the conservative voters. That makes some of the non-conservatives roll their eyes with dissinterest. Perhaps a night-slot on Cartoon Network would work really well. A 52-episode series could get insomniacs addicted. Full Moon just seems a little too cute for CN.
Can anyone see Richard Ian Cox doing Takuto? I do NOT want to hear that man sing.

It also made us conservatives puke.
In the same way, those who mock anime will mock it even more if they try and localize (or as I say "degrade" or "Americanize". I'm a conservative American, yes, but I believe it keeping foreign things FOREIGN and not trying to dress them up to look american. it makes the cultured people on both sides sick) Full Moon. The point of dubs (as well as subs) is to allow audiences that do not speak the production's native language to understand it as well, and thus enjoy the story as much as the original intended audience (language-wise, not demographically). To change it in order to appeal to a wider foreign audience is degrading the production's original intent. Whether or not the production was made in order to make money or to be a work of art or entertainment, it is still degrading to see it twisted in a way it was not meant to be. I hope this is not the case when the FMwS anime is licensed.
I'm pretty confident that the manga will do fine, as it's harder to really degrade manga (except with crummy and/or inaccurate translations, or simply making up new dialogue to replace the original) than it is to really degrade anime, since manga uses images and the written word, while anime needs the inflections and emotions present in the spoken word, and thus the possibilities for doing it wrong are far easier to see coming about.

I need to find a way to submit news better. Anyway, Full Moon isn't the only title Viz licensed. There's the original Count Cain series by Kaori Yuki *the sequel series will be in the shoujo mag* as well as the newest Fushigi Yugi manga, which I think is Genbu. Not sure, but they have listings on Amazon via Viz. There was one other title, but I forgot it.
