As for California, now that's a cool state. I keep hoping the housing market will burst completely so I can afford a house there. I like almost everything about California except the pollution. |
We're full, stay there!

Now I'm totally confused. Where are you from and where you now? If you're in Cali then get ready to make room; I was born in Cali and I intend to return to my roots. So there! |
Oh! You were born here?! Then why'd you leave?!
Come on home then, there's a place waiting at the table for ya!

Hey KAtchan15 I really want to thank you for posting that topic. It made me feel much better the replys. I'm 14 and I care too much about what people think about me ( I HATE MYSELF FOR THAT) so I was thinking if it was time to leave anime in the past but as hard as I tried, I couldn't.
Now that I see a lot of people that are much much older than me still in love with anime I feel sure of myself. Now I really don't care if people look at me weird when I say "gotta go watch my show". I'll just know what they're missing out on.
My parents are also a pain on that too. When I'm watching anime they'll say "You're still watching that kid stuff" and "When are you going to leave that already" I just ignored them, now they respect what I like.
THANKS AGAIN!

I think for once, we have a topic thats truely beneficial. Believe me, i like my image that most people have of me, I'm the type that wears slacks, a dress shirt, and a blazer to school, i like to be taken seriously, and anime i won't lie, i sometimes feel that destracts from that image. I think that anime is becoming more and more mainstream, by the time I'm old, it will be booming, and i intend to be the guy still with the program.

Wow, people on this forum sure like to talk about age! If you are 15 now and love anime, you would most likely continue to love anime when you get older. However, preferences will change. The anime genre you hate now could become one of your favourites!
I started watching anime when I was 9 in Asia. My peers still watch anime today, after more than 25 years. Even if they are not die hard anime fans, they know about anime and have watched it at some point in time.
As an old anime fan, I can walk into any store and spend my own money on things that make me happy. I am not ashamed of being an older fan, if anything, I feel more confident now than when I was a teenager.
However, I do deeply regret that I can no longer dress up like a teenage fan during anime cons. Hence, you youngsters should take advantage of your youth....dress up for cons..............at the end of the day, you must say.....I've been there......done that!

I left because I was just a little kid who didn't know any better and didn't have any say in the matter anyway, but thanks for keeping a spot at the table for me. I'll be back soon or later.

Pardon my ignorance, but why can't you just dress up as one of the older characters?

Your Welcom and No problem don't hate yourself for caring about you image nad how other people see you, it's only normal, you're a teen ager after all .I was really delighted with all of the replies as well. and I'm glad to hear that your parents respect the stuff that you like now. Another is, it’s great you followed other peoples advices I did too, not caring about how other people see you is probably the best advice I've heard in this thread. Thanks for posting sakurasyaoran4eva, and to everyone else who posted as well.To be honest, I didn't think that this much people would post on this topic , hell, i didn’t think anyone would reply at all lol. That's why I was so happy when people actually started posting on this thread. I love hearing about everyone’s' opinion and comments, your advices are awesome as well. It gave me a positive outlook of my future regarding anime fandom. Thanks a lot everyone. I hope that posts keep on coming , all of you are able to express yourselves in different types of ways and i love seeing the variety of comments that are being posted.

wow! I'm really glad that you see it that way , Thanks a lot , It's probably true because people in these forums are intellectual in many ways, they [including you both of course] are all able to analyze topics and express themselves in they're own unique way. I admire most of you guys. About how you dress in school, That's a good thing! A guy in slacks, a dress shirt an a blazer is a very cool and decent guy. I like that. the being serious part is true for me as well, I can be crazy around my friends [at times] but I'm serious most of time. :DWell.. Good night all! I'm out

Just remember to keep it in perspective. It's a hobby, not your life. When it becomes your life, it stops being your hobby, because now your life depends on you making an income by it. This will make more sense when you finally fly the nest your parents now feed you in.

At one time my interest in computers was just a hobby of mine and now it puts food on the table. Anime is probably a lot harder to make an income from, but as we see right here on ANN there are some folks who have managed to do it. In fact, that actually gives me an idea for a new thread...

Well I think if someone really actually loves anime/manga that it shouldn't matter how old or young they are. I mean like I tell my family when they give me a hard time for still likeing those japanese cartoons at age 28, I could be spending my time and money on things that are way worse for me then Anime. Besides, this little hobby cough cough addiction cough cough has helped me become more creative and opened my eyes to certain other hobbies I would never have perusued. For example: Iam going to taking sewing lessons so I can make my own cosplay costumes, I also won an fanfic award at a convention last year for a poem I wrote on Queen Nelephenia from Sailor moon, and I have dabbled in the fun of amv making. I am also going to be taking Japense classes next september in college (yes I am still a schoolie) and for the first time this year actually tried Japense food..I love udon noodles..yum! -This is big for me since I have a very boring pallet I am not very adventure with my food.
I also always point out to those who critize me for still likeing anime at such an old age (cus 28 is sooo old!) that their are more um adult sides to anime. Not all anime is for children(most of it's not) and therefore if they make it for adults then it should be okay for adults to watch.

Hai! I totally agree with you guys. There is just no age limit to liking something @ anime. Its all a matter of preferences and individual perspectives. Just ignore those people who gives you the 'weird' looks. Its your life, not theirs.
Just think of it this way. People think Einstein's nuts but hey, look at what he become? A historical figure. Now those people back then would never imagine Einstein to be one right? Did Einstein even bother what people think of him? I don't think so. The most important thing is that you just have to be you and enjoy it while you're at it. And furthermore, I think that anime has become a kind of phenomenon and more people (regardless of their age) are able to accept it.
My parent have given me 'lectures' due to the fact I'm watching animes so much for as long as I can remember but I just ignore it. Now they don't bother about it anymore since they know its useless. Furthermore, they can't do anything when all of their precious daughters (3 altogether including yours truly) loves anime so much. Come to think of it, even my mother likes to watch animes once in a while. Her fave being Fushigi Yuugi
Furthermore, like Mistress9 said, animes do bring about benefits to us the viewers. For example, my Japanese language sensei at my University carried out a survey on how animes are able to help students learn the Japanese language and I also did some of my language development course presentations on animes. Surprisingly, I was able to get some of my mates interested in animes and even more, clear up some of the 'mis-givings' that they have about animes and people who likes 'em.
Anyways KAtchan15, I'm gald that you're not feeling worried anymore.

I'm in my 50's and still going strong with anime. I guess my tastes may have changed over the years, but I can still easily find things in most genres that I like.
