But this article is about Japanese manga readers, who hardly need piracy to be introduced to an entertainment medium that's a well-known cultural institution in their own country.

... Japan's Content Overseas Distribution Association (CODA) has told the government that between September 2017 and February, piracy has inflicted an estimated amount of more than 400 billion yen (about US$3.72 billion) worth of damage to copyright holders in Japan.

So let's see, in 2016 the combined physical and digital sales of the manga industry in Japan amounted to 445.4 billion yen. link
And in six months time they claim to have lost almost as much to piracy?

Wanna see our digital-first manga in print? Any other manga you want Kodansha Comics to publish? Take this survey!
That message announcing their survey on Kodansha Comic's Twitter feed has, so far, generated: 79 retweets; 70 likes; 22 replies. (Also mentioned on their website, on the "Digital First" page.)

I'd love to know how many completed survey forms they've received since announcing this initiative. Curious too how many people will eventually buy the series they're requesting if the requested series do indeed get translated into published books.

I wonder what websites they are going to block access to, since, as far as I know, there are no "RAW" readers, and most "RAW" content is circulated through PD and similar P2P programs, unles they're looking to block Tazmo's stuff, which would be very welcome, though the move will proove useless since blocking a website means pretty much nothing, safe to tell the authorities that you're making an effort to prevent the unauthorised copying of your copyrighted material, eventhough, again, it's a fruitless endeavor.

As always, the only solution to the problem would be a service like Netflix, CR, etc. Instant and easy access to all the manga library with a monthly sub, and without having to pay 10 different services to get all the manga you want. Until this is achieved, and unless they turn the world into a big brother kind of place, manga pirating will not be stopped.

well its the reason why anime companies are doing that as we speak.

and the worst part, this is already being done in the manga department. specifically in the ero department thanks to DLsite for allowing westerns to purchase their ero manga products online or to read them on their mobile app. even DMM have gone into the mix when their ero department decided to introduce R18.com where US fans can either buy or rent their ero products or some anime and manga for a monthly sub.

i mean seriously! those Japanese politicians aren't fooling anyone! this is just a crappy excuse to further exercise even more restrictions towards the anime & manga industry and it all started when they made mr anti otaku shinzo abe as the PM!

According to the linked Mainichi article, the proposed measure is likely unconstitutional.
(Article as linked in the article is available in English directly from the Mainichi website: Gov't set to request internet providers block access to pirated manga sites - April 6, 2018 (Mainichi Japan))

Legality has rarely deterred either content pirates or the overreaching Japanese Government.

One additional reply, no additional likes or retweets, since last posting.

Below is a direct link to their survey form, also accessible via the links posted above.

Seven Seas Entertainment has been conducting similar surveys for a while now -with slight variations- and has the following text on their website for similar purposes:

Straw poll for straw men. How many people complaining here about the state of affairs abroad in this very thread have submitted either form of feedback to these overseas companies?
