Impressive stuff! Koike is surely one the master authors of insanely offensive manga as his oeuvre attests! It's doubly impressive that Discotek acquired Mad Bull 34 since I don't believe it's even been released on DVD in Japan yet, although France got it on disc a couple of years ago.

Bennett's gonna be so happy.

Maybe some Violence Jack, Devilman, Angel Cop, Genocyber, Apocalypse Zero, and BAOH next? There's gotta be hundreds of cheap old OVAs to bring back.

I like the cut of your jib. BRING BACK ALL THE OLD OVA'S!

My life is almost complete! I got Dirty Pair, All of Fist of the North Star, NOW Mad Bull! I just need the complete set of the original Saint Seiya, and Lupin the III and life will be complete for me.

I don't think this idea is feasible given the way licensing and rights work, but I'd love to see a cheap boxset of old OVA and films sold for cheap, just like they do with horror and sci-fi B-films. There'd be no problem filling one up with 50 titles, and it'd be a fantastic way to inject modern fandom with with a bunch of history. Just of OVAs where characters fight demons or have little flits in outerspace, hundreds of anime to choose from. Bundling works, it feels fulfilling when you buy them almost regardless of the content. I wish anime could bundle shows more often, I liked when ADV did it to that small extent.

Oddly enough I torrented the series and watched it a few days ago. Amazing show will definetly purchase this DVD or Blu-Ray set.

You could theoretically do that by licensing a bunch of OVAs from the same company (like, say, Toei or TMS), but who knows if any Japanese company would even agree to an idea like that, especially if it was done on a big scale like 50 titles. Maybe 3-6 titles I can see a company give the okay to, like how Discotek is doing the Saint Seiya movies, and I can maybe see a 10-pack at the most be given the approval, but not 50. No way in hell.

This is awesome. I remember the review done for it a couple of years ago. This is a classic. Now can we have a decent release for the Devilman movies. I would be so there. Since Manga F***ED the last release up BIG TIME! But I'm very pleased at this news.

After seeing Bennett the sage's review of this i'm not sure what to think of this. It looks like one messed up over the top show. Might check it out myself when it comes out on dvd.

My immediate response on seeing the headline for this was to clap my hands in glee like a little child and say :

"Oh [Expletive Deleted], oh [Expletive Deleted], oh [Expletive Deleted]"

Perhaps I should do a panel on Koike at Fanime next year.

Edited to remove the original word that ANN's system automatically changed to fudge. That gave me a chuckle.
