A lot of people -men and women alike- enjoy the Lucky Star theme song; it's very catchy. Not many sing it, but they like it all the same. If it makes you feel better, I sing the Sailor Moon and Cardcaptors openings almost daily.

I hate to say it since it's such a great show, but I think Sailor Moon is one of those where mostly people who grew up watching it like it a lot. It's sad because it's not a nostalgia thing, it's a good show, but for whatever reason it seems like 90% of the people who enjoy SM watched it in their youth. That may be way off, but it's the feeling I get.

Name: Alan-- however that is my middle name. My first name is Edgar, which caused me problems in school. I started using Alan in college and have ever since.
Sex: Male
Age: 65 – That is not a typo, I was born in 1945.
Blood Type: Impaired – it doesn’t clot very well. (O+)
Location: The self proclaimed “Star City of the South”. I’m from the Philadelphia area but I’ve been here in Virginia since 1971.
Marital Status: Married – 36 years this December.
Ethnicity: In the terms used here; mostly Pennsylvania German with some Scots, Irish, English and a little bit of French. I’m basically a middle class American.
Religion: None to speak of. I’m not looking for any either.
Job: None, retired
Pets: One small black cat. She is named “Noir” but had not assassinated anyone yet. We are having an ongoing discussion as to who is the pet and who is the master.
Drink: Not for several years. I never drank very much, and quit altogether when I realized that there wasn’t anything I actually liked.
Smoke: Never - I had to deal with my parents second hand smoke when I was young and was never tempted to smoke.
Likes: Books; manga; anime; oriental dragons. Any thing I get interested in tends to become a collection.
Dislikes: Political campaign ads. Please make them go away! Fan art contests, that is mostly envy. I couldn’t draw a recognizable anime figure to save my life. Of course, judging from published fan art, that hasn’t stopped some people. Fanatics tend to make me itch. E-Readers, that is Amazon’s Kindle, B&N’s Nook etc. I will use them only if I have no alternative.
Favorite anime: Currently, Ghost Hunt, Ghost Hound, Toradora, Genshiken and Moribito. Earlier, Yawara, Ghost in the Shell, Card Captor Sakura, El Hazard (ova) Bubble Gum Crisis, (ova and TV) Your under Arrest, Aria, Noir. I have probably forgotten several.
Favorite manga: Skip Beat, Fate Stay Night, La Corda d’ora, VB Rose, Negima, Hikaru no Go, Claymore, Appleseed, Ghost in the Shell, Outlanders, The Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service, Card Captor Sakura Oh! My Goddess, Yurara!/Rasetsu. Light novels: Moribito, Kieli, Spice & Wolf.
Favorite Books: Reading is my preferred form of activity. Picking out specific books would be impossible. I read mysteries, science fiction, fantasy, nonfiction history (with a concentration on the American Civil War) and anything that catches my attention. A partial list of authors includes: Charlaine Harris, Patricia Briggs, Kat Richardson, Donna Leon, David Drake, Andrea Camilleri, Talbot Mundy, Leslie Charteris, Rudyard Kipling, Francis Parkman and many others.
Favorite Games: None
Favorite movies/TV shows: None, when I get tired of reading, I watch anime, if I get tired of that I go back to reading. If it wasn’t for anime I wouldn’t watch anything but the evening news. The last movies I watched were the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Not bad, but the books were better.
Favorite Drink: None now, back when I used to drink, Cream de Cacao and ginger ale wasn’t bad.
Non alcoholic drink: I’m pretty much stuck with green tea. I’m a reformed Coca Cola and Diet Coke
abuser.
Favorite Sites: Megatokyo, ANN, Seihinsha (for the Shirow Masamune graphics) and RACS (for my anime fix).
Favorite sport to watch: The ANN forums. All the drama, outrage, recurring themes, and stock characters you could want. I thought I would try to participate, which is why I’m here.
Favorite sport to play: None, I don’t do out-of-doors. The sun and I do not get along.
Favorite Music: No real favorites currently. I’ll listen to anything between Gregorian Chant (great for a headache) and current pop. I don’t care for rap or singers that are too slick.
Hobbies: Reading, collecting books.
Fun facts: My wife collects 1/6 scale fashion dolls, mostly Barbie, but with many others. This makes it difficult for her to complain about my interest in anime and manga. Her hobby is at least as juvenile as mine and costs more. Back when I got into anime, I found that we had two full sets of the Matchbox Robotech dolls and assorted clothing(Rob Briken featured one of these in his last Astro Toy). My wife bought Rick Hunter as a potential alternative to Ken in her Barbie displays and bought the three female dolls because they were cheap. I promptly annexed those and also some dolls she had that were made for the Japanese market. School girls, a miko, kimono and yukata clad girls and even a police woman.
I got into anime on the basis of a blind buy. I picked up a couple of VHS tapes that looked interesting and bought them. At the time I had never heard of anime. Suddenly I had a new (expensive) hobby. That was 13 years ago.
Quotes:
It is good for a dog to have a few fleas, it keeps him from thinking on being a dog. David Harum.
Don’t take life to seriously, it ain’t nohow permanent. Porkypine from the comic strip Pogo.
No one ever went broke by underestimating the intelligence of the American public. H. L. Menken
Frisbeetarianism: the belief that when you die your soul flies to the roof and gets stuck.
Best all purpose excuse: “It seemed like a good idea at the time.”
I have no problem with providing photos, but I’m a bit fuzzy as to where to put them or how to link to them.

Sir, you rawk - you rawk so very much. I'm 45 and often feel like Methuselah's grandpappy around here. The fact you were open enough at age 52 to get into anime/manga is awesomeness.

Impeccable taste.

My favourite Mencken quote is: "Love is the delusion that one woman differs from another." (I don't believe that personally, but one can't help smiling at the puckishly cynical sentiment.)
Welcome, Alan45 - I look forward to seeing more of your posts.

Getting into anime and manga wasn't a great sacrifice. Just a question of apppreciating something different.
I wouldn't exactly like to be younger, but I would really like to feel the way I did when I was in my 40's. At what ever age, it doesn't get better as you get older. Beats the alternative I suppose.

I've been kind of lurking in the shadows for quite some time. I mainly visit ANN for its cool columns and insightful news. I've been posting mostly in another anime forum, but thought I might follow things here as well. English isn't my first language so I apologize for the inevitable typos.
-Well, I'm a 25 year old human male from Finland. I like RPGs and anime. I'm not really into reading manga.
-Some of my favourite anime are Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Mushishi, SDF Macross, Princess Tutu and other shows with ambitious
stories and/or a unique atmosphere. I prefer my fiction in pure form, without getting sidetracked too much.
-Same goes for games I guess: FF VI/VII/X, Chrono Trigger, Xenogears and Valkyria Chronicles are some of my tops. I'll also throw in Morrowind for the athmosphere.
I think that is more than a sufficient amount of info that I'll tell on an anonymous forum. I'll be lurking around.

Seems harmless enough.
~I'm from the south-western parts of Ontario, Canada, particularly around London.
~I'm male, 16 (going to be 17 in a few months) and have yet to go for my G1 Driver's License. Partially because I don't want it. I hate cell phones too. I don't see what the fuss about.
~I got into anime...whenever Fox Kids started to air the first season of Digimon. It wasn't until my cousin (who's younger than me) introduced me to Gundam (I was into the edit of Escaflowne at the time) that I began to experience anime.
~I'm a mecha fan, whether Super or Real. I do like shows like Serial Experiments Lain or an occasional episode of Haruhi and Lucky star (Jam Project's cover of the song is awesome, though must've been humiliating.)
~My favorite mecha shows are: Super Dimension Century Orguss, King of Braves GaoGaiGar (And FINAL) Aquarion of the Genesis, Super Heavy God Gravion/ Gravion Zwei, SDF Macross, Nadescio and Getter Robo: The Last Day On Earth/Armageddon.
Oh yeah. I'm a writer too, the most important fact about me in my opinion. xD

Thanks for the welcome! Some days I feel older than dirt.
I sorta read through all the pages in this thread before I posted. A couple of people have hinted at being about my age, but I don't think anyone was specific before.
The nice thing about the forums is that I can associate with people of all ages without feeling out of place. My local library sponsers both an anime and a manga club. However, after talking to the guy in charge I decided not to attempt to join as it is all teenagers. Boys in the anime club and mostly girls in the manga club. I suspect my presence might have been misinterpreted, especially in the manga club. I did donate a large collection of manga anthologies to them when I realized I would not be re-reading them.
