The talent is a mixed bag for me, but I'm still excited because it's an original Shaft project.

A second season of Maria†Holic? I heard the sales for that were awful. Maybe not.

Sales were lacklustre but not totally awful (that would be Natsu no Arashi).

Nevertheless, SHAFT's lineup for this year hasn't performed any better. Arakawa Under the Bridge is on par with Maria Holic, while Dance in the Vampire Bund bombed miserably. Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru remains up in the air, but in general, Shinbo/SHAFT don't have quite the same momentum as before.

Eclectic humor shows are always going to be rather niche, even in Japan. Bakemonogatari did as well as it did mostly due to the appeal of the girls and catchy insert or rotating OP/ED songs.

Arakawa and SoreDemo don't exactly have a lot going in the way of cute/sexy girls for fanservice...

Hnnnnngg-- Well this sounds interesting! I love Ume Aoki! Her art style, humor, plot... Love 'em all. Plus I love Shaft. Sooo~ Let's see where this goes.

I believe that whole Anime no Chikara label is done. Didn't Aniplex only plan 3 projects (which in turn none of them were hits sales wise).

Isn't the character design what makes Hidamari Sketch rather unpopular (compared to some stuff in the genre) despite having that many sequels? I always hear good things about it, but getting past that design is unfathomable.
I don't know.. good director, good scenario writer, but the design seems... dodgy. Perhaps the designer will use a different style?
