http://www.animenation.net/news/index.php says Gonzo is producing a series for it. Didn't they learn from that awful cable show?

I have to agree with you the cable show did suck. Since the "anime" it's being animated by Gonzo it's likely to suck more.

What are you guys talking about? The cable show sucked because they went "minimalist" (read "cheap") with it. With an anime they can go over the top on the action, so it might be pretty good. I'm not a Witchblade fan, but there is a lot of potential there in anime form.

Gonzo does amazing works. I am wondering if Top Cow management will be heavy-handed in limiting what Gonzo can do to produce the show.

And by "amazing" you mean in the animation part right? There writing sucks. Maybe you were too amazed of their animation work but didn't notice that their writing is horrible=FFU,Hellsing, Real Bout Highschool, Gatekeepers, Gravion and even Full Metal Panic.
Gonzo is overated. Witchblade may end up good but it's unlikely since it's being done by Gonzo. But at the very least it will have nice animation for you to drool at.

What's all this I'm hearing about how the live-action series sucked?
It most certainly didn't. Granted, it minimized the witchblade effects, but I expected that; depicting the witchblade as it is in the comics would have been prohibitively expensive. I quite liked the story, though, and I quite liked Yancy Butler as Sarah Pezzini. I have strong doubts about this anime project because I have a bad suspicion about how it's going to be handled. As long as they make it a mature anime focusing on adult characters it *might* work, but I'm not going to hold my breath. |

I am not the biggest Witchblade fan (though some of the art was very nice), but this is going to suck royally. Gonzo is really overated. This year in particular they have been doing adaptations: Seven Samurai sucks and Gantz pales compared to the manga. I can see them messing up Witchblade by adding lots of anime cliches.

I actually quite enjoyed the tv series, though the 1st season was much better than the 2nd (IMO). While the story was good and addicting and such, I don't think I'd like to see it as an anime, though knowing me I'll watch it just for the sake of watching it.
It seems that the feel to it will change with a japanese 'adaptation'. |

I know that the American comics company did a mini-series that featured a feudal Japanese setting and the main character was a widow from the Samurai Caste. Forgive for being vague, I only paged through it in a comics store a year or two ago and never read/watched witchblade. I wonder if they are useing that for the basis. All the best, Nani? |

Of all things from Image comics to be an animated series why witchblade? Then again why anything from from those Marvel-wannabees? (Even Spawn wasn't that original.Although i loved the HBO animated series)Gonzo should pick another comic based franchise. Especially since Marvel has the coolest characters bar none.

If you guys look more closesly you'll realize that they are not animating the comic witchblade they are just taking the idea of the witchblade and creating there own anime I think it could be pretty good. And Gonzo has done some awesome shows. Gatekeepers, FMP and Hellsing were not written by Gonzo. They were taken from the manga that was running.

Probably they were turned onto a Japanese Witchblade idea due to the number of BDSM references splashed thru the comic here and there.
