Aw, I don't see a meetup for my city. But I'll check back later.
Hurray, Hetalia day!

My money is on America for it being his idea. It just sounds like an American idea, and I bet he did it just so he could get that nifty spot in the front and center of the poster for it. Next thing you know there will be BBQs at these things with hamburgers. I suppose people will insist on pasta too.
Ha, there's one in Boston. I might go if I have the day off and nothing better to waste my time on. It'll be good for a laugh.

There seems to be one about two hours away from where I live. Tempting.
Hetalia fans are usually wonderful and talented people so I bet these would be exciting events.
I can't believe the fanbase has grown so much in the past few years. And I remember being shocked just to see it being sold in a bookstore when it was first published... (it was strange to see a webcomic for sale like that with big advertisements)

Darn, no meetup in WI and I can't check up to see where the IL one is at since I don't have a Facebook and I'm not signing up for one just to check it out. Ah well, I'll celebrate in spirit.

If I do go to the Boston one I'll have an America cosplayer smacking up an England one or something in front of some relevant, famous historical site. Surely we can find tri-cornered hats and red coats in Boston to add to it.
Bother. I'm starting to fangirl over photo opportunities now. If in Boston, just look out for me. I'll be the nutty Lithuanian with a camera. I think I may go for the traditional Lithuanian dress though versus the green uniform. National pride and all that. That and my mom has some traditional Lithuanian garb around the house I can play with. Never touched the stuff. It's sort of sad it'd take something like Hetalia to get me to consider using it.

Hopefully these fangirls don't actually desecrate War Memorials like some did last year and caused a minor stink with the local Veteran's group.

Seriously?
If these people put more effort in being productive in relation to the concept of Hetalia, maybe they could be the generation that leads the world to peace. Meh...

4chan even discovered pictures of this travesty, which the offenders quickly BALEETED from dA.
I think I save one. A Hetalia cosplayer stomping on the words PEARL HARBOR while dressed up as Germany. Her caption was something stupid or soemthing.

Just a quick reminder from a friendly local Hetalia fan. The majority of the fandom does NOT condone ignorant/rude/idiotic behavior at war memorials and the like. Obviously we can't police what everyone in the fandom says or does, but people doing stupid, disrespectful things like cosplaying at war memorials do NOT reflect what the majority of the Hetalia fandom thinks is okay or a good idea.
Aw, no meetups near me this year either.

Definitely excited... Not sure if the local Hetalia buddies are holding a Hetalia Day meetup, or if I'm going to drive out to one :3
(Closest one listed so far is either San Jose or Los Angeles...Both are about 3:30 hours drive.)
I agree with Maryohki, most of us aren't looking to offend anyone and mess with war memorials.
It's one thing to pay respects at a memorial while cosplaying a country, but it's another to disrespect a memorial while cosplaying a country :\
Have fun, but keep in mind that history is "real". Besides, we don't want to soil the dignity of each character, right?
I'm really looking forward to it~ <3

Ah, Maryohki beat me to it, but I'll second what they said as well.
Sadly there are morons in every fandom that have to ruin it for the rest of us, the Hetalia ones just get noticed more due to the delicate nature of the activity.
But from what I've seen of the Australian - or at least, Sydney - Hetalia fanbase, they're pretty chill, awesome people, so I'll be going to the Sydney meetup this year (I didn't go last year, since I was in Japan then). But rest assured if anyone wants to do anything dumbass in front of an ANZAC memorial I'll be right there to stop and let them know they are being idiots. C:
