Did people honestly think that when they said "We're leaving forever this time!" that they were ACTUALLY GOING TO LEAVE FOREVER?

No, but I think at this point it's still just a matter of time before 4chan kicks the bucket yet again. I give it 6 months before they either cut their image board sizes by >50%, or else they run out of money again.
Google banners aren't supposed to run on sites with adult content (and /h/ is, by anyone's definition, adult content); I doubt they'll be around for very long. The links to stuff to buy is a neat idea, though. Maybe some people will actually buy.

Why is this making news? Doesn't 4chan basically proliferate copyrighted works? It's like announcing a fansub group has returned.

It made the news because them closing down made the news. If we report on a closing, its only responsible to report on the re-opening, but other than that, I honestly doubt 4chan will be in the news again...

Besides, they're no longer alowing torrents for licensed titles/works which is a HUGE step in the right direction.

They're image boards (2chan is a Japanese take on it, 4chan (and the former 5chan) are English versions). Basicly people submit pictures for other people to see and talk about; of course, the most popular and most draining on their resources are their various hentai/porn sections.

Six months? Awfully optimistic aren't you?
Honestly, I don't imagine the majority of people who will be "regulars" on the site will be purchasing much if anythng through them. It's going to take more than a new group to keep it going, and I think they are just setting themselves up for a fall. I doubt they will last till the end of the year.

and yes they did bring back /g [puke]
man I thought id seen sum fubar stuff before but damn /g is nasty. would it be wrong to pray for someone to DDOS /g?

And I dont except for today since I didn't know WTF it was. should have guessed.
You know the irony is I can sit thru a whole day of dissussing murder and viewing slides of crime scenes no problem but man
/g made me Ill. I guess its was some of the comments people were posting like they were activly stroking to it or some thing.
