Any true fan of South Park would of remembered that your supposed to go to Somalia to become a pirate. Not a terrorist.

So, what does "Anime Fan" really mean? If he liked Cowboy Bebop, DBZ, and other stuff Soulja Boy raps about, I think that's actually kind of normal for most of the male population in that age group. It doesn't make you an anime fan anymore than watching the LotR movies makes you a high fantasy fan or so on.
If he bought DVDs, watched stuff at least somewhat routinely, collected any merchandise, ever attended a convention, or stuff like that, then yeah, maybe. Jumping to assign labels is same problem we had with Columbine and other cases back in the day. It says he liked Japan, but that doesn't mean he necessarily likes anime. I can like England without liking tea. |

Does it? I was reading the article, but the reference must be on the first page which I can't read, because I don't want to register just for this. Anyway, judging from the rest of the article it's pretty clear that the "likes anime/Japan" fact was only in there to set up contrast for his later shift over to "likes Jihad/extremism". Okay the Washington Post found this information relevant how? Are they trying to implicate his admiration of Asian culture or entertainment made him into an extremist? Are they trying to show not all Terrorists are Muslims or something? Either way they're doing a pretty crappy job of it.
And now I can see Glenn Beck in front of his chalk board demonstrating how "anymay porn inspires extremists" Great thanks a lot WP now the Alarm Bells will start ringing. Or maybe I'm overestimating. We'll see. |
