Question...
When the series opens up, there are a number of fight sequences that are brought together to make the opening. What are they from? From what I gather they are related to when Araragi was a vampire, and it shows us a mangled and dying shinobou before her transformation... Where / when did any of this get explored? Am I missing a prequel here? I've heard one's already been written, and it will eventually be animated, but the way that these have been incorporated into the very beginning of the original series is throwing me off. What's going on? Is this more of the 'creativity' explored throughout the series, making it seem like you've missed 10 other episodes when you really haven't? I mean if so, well done, the jokes on me... it's driving me nuts not knowing whats going on in these...

They are from Kizumonogatari I believe, which is the prequel to Bakemonogatari. I don't know why scenes from it was incorporated into the first Bakemonogatari opening, except maybe as a teaser.

Well as you should know, Bakemonogatari loved to be artistic, those scenes are directly meant to be set before the series, and of when he was turned into a vampire. I assume that in that short moment they wanted to express that something has hapend. Though rather then explain us the origin straight away, they wanted to tease us with diferent scenes, so we have a bit of mystery and have little pieces filled in (something done with each arcs plot). In fact even the panty shot at the begining of the series is apparently of importance and partialy a catalyst.
The good news is that the second series (well the prequel) has been announced, so we might finally get treated the origin.

As said, it's from the prequel light novel Kizumonogatari most likely as a sort of teaser to those who had read it before.
Luckily it's been confirmed for adaptation so be confused no longer.

It's a Nisio thing to have his stories start out with the protagonist already having gone through multiple events and hinting at them throughout. Having read the first Zaregoto novel and most of the second.. Iichan.. is one fucked up person.. and I can't wait to see what he has done.. the hints.. are disturbing..

I kid you not, that panty shot is most of the first chapter (it's short). That adaption really shows that a picture is worth a thousand words.
