Really? That's a surprise. I always thought that was niche.

Could've sworn that Birdy the Mighty:Decode Blu-Ray was on one of the monthly release threads in the retail forum. Also sad to hear that they only got the OP for the first Eden of the East episode but if the alternative one is the one in the trailers then I don't mind as much. And hurray for Summer Wars, really want to save that one and I guess all the rumors about Funi doing the dub were right.

Lol, that's a funny "what not to ask" in Q&A.
But yeah, never ask Voice actors about their personal lives and personal information.

Quote: | Morris confirmed that the music rights for the Eden of The East opening, sung by Oasis, could only be acquired for the first episode; subsequent episodes will not have the original opening song attached. |
That's so weird. Only for the first episode? I don't get it.
Quote: | When asked about the S.A.V.E. line, Sheehan noted that contracts for anime licenses sometimes preclude lowering the show's price beyond a specified point. Funimation marketing director Lance Heiskell confirmed this and added that the S.A.V.E. line is generally a way to re-release shows four to five years after their original North American release. |
That's interesting. I've actually been delaying several purchases since I'm gonna wait for S.A.V.E.s, but 4-5 years is a long time. I wonder if there will still be a Viridian Collection between the box set and the S.A.V.E.? Hopefully Supreme Lord Heiskell is still around so that he can give one of his loyal peons a prompt answer

How bizarre is them being allowed to use the Oasis song.. but only for one episode. I can't see how this arrangement makes any sense.

So much for switching to Yahoo like they announced at Anime North - that will annoy all the Canadians who can only watch the non-Hulu videos. It would annoy me to if they'd only unlock the front end of the site.

Music licensing can be very bizarre and expensive. They probably have to pay to use it for each episode and didn't want to spend that much money. Licensing an Oasis song was not likely cheap and getting it for every episode could have either increased the price drastically or made it impossible to recover the cost of doing the series.
They are at least putting it on the disc, which is more than we usually get.

I couldn't help but picture a grown man, nearly 7 feet tall, bombarding FUNimation's Facebook and twitter accounts with this request over and over. I wonder if the Canadian Mounties have surrounded his house yet.

My wallet attests it contributed 82.4% of this 51%.

This statement isn't getting off that easy.

Preclude? I'm betting this is to ensure those 4 employees above have something to do.

Four to five years? I can wait to purchase it. After all, it's not like I won't be able to see it if I really wanted to. 1 lawyer and 3 employees. The odds are in my favor.
Quote: | Sheehan also indicated that Sgt. Frog has been performing well. |
Is this before or after retailers had to take the hit and drop the price to move the inventory?
Natsume was the reason sales exploded
What I'd like to know is how well Ghost Hunt did.
Quote: | Heiskel indicated to ANN during the Q&A that they will be re-branding the FUNimation Channel in the next couple of months. |
If I read this correctly, does this mean "The Anime Channel On Demand" will be called "Hey, We're Actually The FUNimation Channel"?
Quote: | He also confirmed that Funimation has acquired both the Blu-Ray and DVD rights to Evangelion 2.22. |
FUNimation has four people fighting copyright infringement just so the company can turn around and be forced to pay for the same content multiple times in order to sell it in two different formats?
Tell me again who the pirates are?

Oh, Blood- Can't blame him, though. At least he has good taste. Too bad he's, like, 15 years older than her and 2 feet taller, whereas I'm only 8 years younger and roughly the same size. Just sayin. Call me Laura.

I always found it a tad absurd that companies have to pay for DVD rights and Blu-Ray rights and Streaming rights and they only get to keep the rights for like 8 years (or however long a contract lasts). Not to mention they have to jump through flaming hoops just to get to this point.

There's definitely nothing almost cartoonishly absurd about this comment. No, definitely nothing at all. Clearly companies choosing to sell the rights to their content in different parts rather than a lump sum, as they are perfectly entitled to do, it being their own bloody content which they have created totally makes them worse than freeloaders who steal that content and distribute it illegally. Nope. Nothing bat shit insane about that statement.

I'm very excited to see that Summer Wars is being picked up. But I really hope funi does a good job with this title. If they play their cards right they could actually have a successful movie release. My fingers are crossed for it to be shown in a KC theater.
Also, I really don't get why they can only use the Eden of the East opening for the first episode. It's like saying "you can only use a fork for your first bite, the rest of the steak must be eaten with a spoon" haha. But seriously I'm really wondering what the reason is.
And finally they are going to release Oh! Edo Rocket. It only took them 2 years to do it.

They only use the Eden of the East opening for the first episode because that's probably the limits on the license they purchased. It's always a bit of a letdown with Funi when they talk about their legal team, how about they tell some results? It's always "here's the team", how about "this is what they accomplished"?

YouTube not Yahoo, but yeah. I thought they said they were going to switch to that instead. Weird.
S.A.V.E. line... 3 to 4 years? Hmm... I love Big Windup and pre-ordered the SAVE(dition), and also beat myself up for not getting the half sets...
RightStuf and other places say it's coming out August. I thought it was pushed out that quickly because the half sets did poorly. But does this 3-4 years thing mean its going to pushed back?

It's too bad there were no questions about dub casts. I was hoping we'd get to hear the situation on whether the old dub casts of Hellsing Ultimate and Black Lagoon would be returning.

Not in the context of most record companies which don't actually create content, just distribute it and then shaft the original artists, which is what I hear is going on with these reboots.

Also like to add further complication in that Oasis doesn't exist as a group any more and the two brothers hate each other so it makes it more of a problem when you have two people think ti's really valuable.... and probably want to payed the same amount as the other one or could say no or put odd stipulations in out of spite, we just don't know... but it certainly adds a layer of complexity to a complex problem.
