Is ANN going through Toei's catalog? If so is Air Master going to be uploaded soon? I'm trying to stay away from the fansubs, but I'm starting to itch.

Yes, Airmaster is in the queue, and getting re-encoded. I'd give you an exact date, but I'm having to reshuffle the schedule a lot these days, so I'll just say "in the next few weeks."

Okay, great. As long as I know it's coming, I'm satisfied.

The ANN website shows that episodes 1-152 of this are up, not just up to 54. Whether thats an error or not, I don't know.

Aside from that, Hulu has had this up for awhile.

Not that it matters, as long as more people watch it. Its basically the series that invented the shounen genre, which means its also hard to call it cliched in any sense, since it originated most of those cliches.

No, the rest of them are Hulu embeds. Our video looks a bit better, IMHO.

New viewers might be pleasantly surprised that it bypasses a lot of the typical shonen cliches. You will never find a Tournament Arc in Fist of the North Star, for example. Also (with one major exception), when a character dies, they stay dead.

dx: I'm guessing they want you to buy the Discotek dvds coming out in a week or so.

Well, now, said character was never truely dead to begin with, so I wouldn't really consider that as going against that particular cliche.

I compared the video quality between ANN's and Hulu's, and I must say that ANN's did appear cleaner, however, considering the age of the video, I find most people probably won't really notice such differences.

dxInt, as far as I know, Discotek's version does use the remastered versions, which is one of the reasons why it interests me, since this is a version I do not have (I have all the discs Manga Entertainment released before folding, and I also imported the Super Premium Boxset, back in 2003), plus the fact that they plan to release all of it, as far as I know.

Again, though, given the age of the video, even remastered it can only do so much. Even Dragon Ball Kai looks noticably aged, even though it too is remastered.

EDIT: I made an error, Discotek used the remastered edition of the film for its released of the Hokuto no Ken Film, they have not stated if the series dvd release is the remastered version, or the same used in the Super Premium Box.

Good to see this classic up. I pre ordered the first box set a while ago and have been waiting in anticipation ever since then. I really hope it does well enough that the whole series finally gets released here.

Same here and hopefully well enough that they look into picking up the Legend Of The True Savior Movies and OVAs & Souten No Ken as well.

Nice to see Fist of the North Star (Hakuto No Ken) up on ANN. I've been watching this on Hulu and man this anime is badass. I was impressed with the action in that anime, not bad for a old-school 80's anime. I'm also watching Captain Harlock on Hulu. I'll watch Galaxy Express 999 after finishing Harlock.

Discotek stated they plan to get the entire series released here.

Those comparison screenshots are nice, but using the compressed stream as a reference doesn't really help. The remaster does look nice, though.

I plan to watch Galaxy Express 999 on Hulu when they finish putting it up. They've only got the first thirteen or so episodes up.

Also, I was kind of surprised Souten no Ken wasn't liscensed awhile ago. Perhaps if Hokuto does well, they'll snag Souten as well.
