Yo people. Been out of the game for a long time and finally come back to find new Eva, Trigun, and Haruhi movies on their way. Can't wait.
Anyway... checked up on Haruhi and saw there was a 2009 renewal season. Been having a tough time finding a review on it, so could someone tell me, what the hell it is and give me some feedback. Would appreciate it. |

The season 2 chat starts on page 154. tl;dr version: Letdown for the most part, Endless Eight divided opinion but the majority felt it was horrendous. Did I miss anything? (edit: Sorry, i'm in a cynical, cynical mood tonight. Have a read of the thread, it's worth checking the season out but don't expect it to hit the dizzy heights of the first, or indeed the movie) |

Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody is pretty much vital to understanding why Haruhi is the way she is now, and is highly recommended watching for a fan. The Sighs of Haruhi Suzumiya is like a behind the scenes for the making of Episode 00, and possibly interesting, but it makes very clear that Haruhi is a selfish beeotch. |

Easiest way to take Haruhi, S2, and the Movie, and not feel "tested"- familiarize yourself with the novels.
It helps....A Lot! |

Incidentally, the preview for the next novel was translated by someone. Let's just say that it starts off in high gear
 He must really be trying to get an epic conflict rolling, and maybe even conclude this.
It also helps that the translator of the preview is much, much better than the rest of the novels. |

The pre-view did start off in high gear. It was a great 20-page read and I want the rest now.
So about the movie being shown in LA, Wendee Lee is going to be there I think. (I was told by some one who got there ticket and is going to the one night showing) Crispin's trying to go to the showing as well. I have no idea if any of that is true or not, it's just I've been told by a few people going. |

I hope someone reads this and helps me out. I have watched all of Haruhi 2006 a while ago and i have been searching around for a while and I so confused. I can't seem to find a straight answer as to what the 2009 series. Is it just a straight remake with some extra episodes or am I on the wrong path?

Well in Japan when they were releasing the 2009 series they also showed the 2006 series, this was partialy done as the 2009 season is largely set inbetween the 2006 series episodes. One episode deals with why you often see a tree in the room and a very important part of the story. Another group is quite infamous but is another display. And a few show how they made that movie Haruhi directed, and it was far from normal.

I just realised... this series isn't available in HD? Like, anywhere? Someone tell me I'm blind, because this doesn't make sense. Most big series have their HDs out... BRs even. No HD for Haruhi?

The best explanation for how the new episodes and the repeated episodes in the 2009 renewal fit together can be seen by looking at the Episode Guide in ANN's Encyclopedia entry for the series.

This may have been asked before in the topic, but is it necessary/better to watch the episodes in their chronologically intended order, or should I just stick to the way it's ordered on the dvds?
I was watching episode 00 (the mini movie that the group makes) to start the series off, since it's presented as the first episode on the first dvd, and wondering wtf was going on before i realized it was technically episode 11. Aside from what I'm hoping is this one exception where I should definitely not have started the series with an out-of-order episode, should I continue on watching in their apparently jumbled order, or make the attempt to watch in the correctly intended chronology? |

The show is much better watched in broadcast order. In chronological order, the climax of the first season happens well before the end and then you just get the slice-of-life episodes after it, which can be pretty boring.

I recomend the original release order (jumbled up), I think it does a better job to set the climax at the end instead of in the middle, I think that it was quite fun how the series gives you little bits of information to tease you with things in the original order that makes a rewatch in chronological order another fun thing to do.
And if you would really do chronological order you also have to worry about where season 2 fits in also as some of its episodes were set in chronologically between, but I think that again it was made best as a set up for the movie. |

The franchise was re-ordered in 2009 and has been aired as a 28 episode season ever since. Unfortunately for NA fans, due to the way contracts work, Bandai was never able to make a set that had all the episodes in chronological order (nor did Crunchy make an effort to mirror the JP airings), so it's split into two "seasons" of 14 episodes each. The so-called "broadcast order" is how it was aired at one time, but now the "broadcast order" and "chronological order" is the same order.
The jumbled episodes is a good gimmick, but makes it difficult to continue onward. Do you re-watch the same episodes in chronological order with the new ones mixed in? Do you only watch the new episodes, which were not intended to be viewed seperately? Or just cut out the problem and watch all 28 in chronological order followed by the movie (the new "climax" of the series)? Personally I argue for the latter. |
