I'm also having trouble reaching ANN from time to time for the past two or three days. It seems the loading time is longer than usual when I manage to reach individual show page info. Since I was having trouble adding info, I switched to Chrome. Seems better now. I was using Firefox 3.6.3.

I guess I'll try posting with Chrome...
This "posting.php" timeout began occurring again a few days ago (again means ever since this thread died out). I was may 20 when I first noticed. I normally use Firefox 3.6.3. Can't really add anything new. Chrome seems to get through and actually post. I find it ironic that I need to post a message asking for a fix on posting messages... This kind of annoyance discourages leaving replies at all. Hope fix is coming. Update: I tried to edit > submit this very post in Firefox only to get timeout. Update2: Tried same thing with IE 8. Failed as well (timeout). And the lesson is... Chrome - BEST?!?! Hell no! Just that ANN is totally bias towards it. |

Strange, I only use Firefox and have not experienced any posting problems like you've encountered.

I had the same problems posting on Friday around 1-2 pm GMT. I could retrieve posts, but uploading resulted in the long hang followed by Firefox offering to download "posting.php" from the server rather than, of course, interpreting the PHP code.
This was on a different computer than the one I'm using now, but both have Ubuntu 10.04 installed with a 3.5.9 or later Firefox release. |

I've merged the 4 threads about the recent connectivity problems since they seem to be related. I just implemented a fix that apparently resolved the problems for dormcat. Hopefully it will work for everyone else too. But it's #&%$ black magic.
If anyone continues to have problems, make sure to note the server name at the bottom of the page (@skuld/urd/bel/peorth); maybe it's just one of the servers that is sick. |

Does it help your search any that the problem seems to be that http requests get no response from the server when they become too long? Either through cookies becoming large, or long posts, or forms with many variables.
ETA: I just had to delete cookies and trim this post to make it go through, so apparently the current fix is not enough yet. |

Oh, and as always, I'm using Skuld/fast. I would try Urd/www, but I can't change my account preferences..

Unfortunately it doesn't help that much because other people (like me) have no trouble with huge posts or huge cookies. Send an email to [email protected] with your OS version, browser version, how much cookies you have according to this page, and it would also help if you included the output of Firefox > Tools > Live HTTP Headers for a request that timed out.

I don't know what you just changed, but I can post even long messages now without removing cookies. Time to post an overdue update in the 'What are you watching now?' topic..

I don't know if something was done in the last 8 hours, but the site is working perfectly on all of my browsers at the moment(IE, Firefox, and Chrome). Server: skuld. It wasn't working as well before said period.

Seconded. It's nice to actually post again. Thanks to those involved for correcting the issue. Greatly appreciated. |
