According to the rumours running in the late 1999, Fox made title (Conan's Capers) and name changes. And it was originally for Fox Family, as I know. |

According to the ever reliable Karl Olson from Toon Zone forums, all of the name changes in Detective Conan, legal or otherwise, were all enforced by TMS. Apparently, FUNimation tried to fight back too.
But whatever. I hear that the dub is great regardless. Now if only they'd up the DVD episode count. |

Wow... I decided to check back here after five months and I find all these? Interesting... Well, first of all, I don't see why you bother. If you seriously get bugged with all the 'whiners' and 'complainers,' why even bother checking this topic? If you've hanged around in the anime world long enough, you should know that the place will have angry rants and protests scattered everywhere. So why even bother coming here and replying and sounding like you're so intelligent and so mature and "all-that"? Did you neglect to notice that everything else is being left untouched? In the way you said it, I believe your definition of "everything" excludes logo, theme songs, names, certain elements and certain plots? If so, I suggest you look up the meaning of the word. Now I'm sure you'll probably reply with annoying, stingy, long, and boring comments that could be summarized into "logos and themes songs are unimportant. How do you know the plots are changed?" You may know why, you may not, I'm explaining anyway. Certain cases, and especially the second movie, revolves heavily around the Japanese names. Since FUNi has acquired rights to the second movie, the only way they'll be able to present it is to alter the plot so that it's got nothing to do with the Japanese names. Changing the plot changes the spirit of the original work and, to me, is an insult. ("You're hopeless!"). Yes, I am, and it is because I have been obsessed with the series since I was seven. Translating the name is changing it, too, after all. I don't see how so, translating is only to express the original in a language which the target understands. Is saying "Ohayou!" instead of "Good Morning!" changing it? I think not, since they deliver the same meaning. And translating isn't half as bad as changing, besides, for series like Meitantei Conan, DBZ, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Naruto, etc. They included the translated English title in the original logo already. If a simple, innocent, harmless name change made you lose faith in the entire domestic industry, I suggest therapy. Or a new hobby that doesn't involve foreign products. Well, if the change made it so that you think I'm in such a bad state that I require therapy, then I don't suppose it's innocent and harmless, is it? And whatever happened to the whole "If you disagree, disagree respectfully" junk, eh? You also contradict your own interest quite well, for I do not think shouting-at-newcomers-with-stingy-comments-on-their-first-post qualify as any sort of "manner." ...Perhaps except uncivilized manners. Since you have been so kind to recommend me therapy, may I also suggest you to work on your social relations, for I'm sure I am not the only one in this entire community who is pissed at you for your hostile comments. |

I suggest a mod just lock this topic so we can all move on.

The entire "Should names be changed?" debate is just as stupid as the "sub vs. dub" and "Should americans do anime?" debates.
