I originally posted this in the duplicate persons thread back in November, but since this is another mash-up, and a big one at that, I'm reposting in a new thread:

Atsushi SATO (#6523, 佐藤篤志)

I was actually looking for 佐藤篤史 but there are clearly multiple people mixed together here.

We also have an Atsushi SATOU (#54242, 佐藤敦). He seems pretty self contained but some of his credits are mixed in with #6523's.

From the Atsushi SATO page:

The following series were all worked on by 佐藤篤史 (animator):
Kiddy Girl-and (I added this myself since it goes with..)
Kanamemo

The following credits are for 佐藤敦 (digital effects etc.):
Kimi ni Todoke (I think there may be an error with the source page here, since it credits him as "ED staff" but not what for - I doubt he did key animation since he's a CG guy. He's also credited on that same page for 3DCGI and that is already credited to #54242)
Aoi hana
Nabari no Ō
Nodame Cantabile
Honey and Clover

The following credits are for 佐藤篤志 (animator):
Eden of The East
Shikabane Hime
Kotetsushin Jeeg
Hayate

The following is for 佐藤淳 (90's animator):
Mashin Eiyuden Wataru
Pia Carrot
Nonomura Hospital

The following is for 佐藤厚司 (80's animator):
Plawres Sanshiro

The following is for 佐藤あつし (composer):
Angelic Layer

The following is for 佐藤アツシ(CGI):
Noiseman

the following is for 佐藤厚志 (80's animator):
Super Mario Bros.

Since none of the other Atsushi Satōs are background artists the Ayakashi Ayashi credit may well be for Takeshi Satō, who is the Background Art Director for the series (which doesn't preclude him from being an artist on some episodes as well)

Where no source was given at all I have added one using a green flag.

I can see this is going to be a pain to untangle and I think I need to track down more 3rd party information on many of these people before we can even think of doing anything; a number of them may be simple mispellings.

I think it's only eight distinct spellings

Grouping job roles, timeframes and spelling similarities the following might just be mispellings of the same person, and often can be read other ways also:

佐藤篤史 and 佐藤篤志 (animator, currently working, only differs in the last character)

佐藤敦 (CGI, 敦 has many other readings but most in our DB use Atsushi)

佐藤淳 (two 90s hentai titles from the mid 90s and one kids show from 89, 淳 has a tonne of possibly readings. Jun is actually more common that Atsushi and.. we do have a Jun SATO)

佐藤厚司 and 佐藤厚志 (animator from the 80s, only differs in the last character. Both can also be read as Kōji.)

佐藤あつし (composer, only one title)

佐藤アツシ (90s CGI, only one title)

Looks like I missed the Akira credit last time around, and that doesn't fit in with any of the others at all.

I will definitely need to keep plugging away at this one.

More evidence that these two are one guy: while he was credited for Kiddy GiRL-and episode 21 as 佐藤篤史 (http://www.kiddygirl-and.com/story/21.html), episode 22 has him as 佐藤篤志 for the same role (they've not updated the site yet).

[edit]fixed copy/paste error.[/edit]

This Jun Sato has 10 credits at ANN of which
- 4 have no source,
- 4 are "DVD credits",
- 1 points to a domain that no longer exists and finally
- http://members.at.infoseek.co.jp/animelist/ad/Lsek.htm for Lodoss Wars TV (1998) gives the kanji 撮影 : 佐藤 純 (with 20 possible readings including "Atsushi" and "Jun"), i. e. a kanji name different from all Atsushi Satōs we've seen before. Sad

These 10 credits include Character Design (2), Original Drawing (1), Animation Director (1), Photography (5 including the kanji reference) and Cinematography (1) so this might be two persons as well (Animator/Artist vs Photographer/Cinematographer). Or maybe some of the animator credits for Jun actually belong to one of the Atsushi animators?

Unlike episode 21, the official site still doesn't list any assistant sakkan for ep 22, nor 23 (where he is again 佐藤篤志)
Screencaps in lieu:

Er, if that screencap represents the level of translation of that fansubber then I'd take their transliterations with a grain of salt.

You're certainly right (and you know this fansubber, and this release is 3 years old now) but the screencap here is to document the kanji (which have no source in the WWW), not the translation.

I suspect the inference is that you are talking to them now.

OK. My Akira DVD only has English credits, however it says Atsushi Sano, not Sato:

Our Atsushi Sano is a bassist however.
We have already determined that some Kanji for Atsushi can also be read as Jun, and we do have a Jun Sano with credits for "Cell Painting" and "Finishing". I can't find any online source for Akira credits with Kanji that goes down to the Shiage level unfortunately, neither can I figure out the Kanji name for this "Yuminsha" company.
However: Jun Sano's existing credits are for Angel's Egg and a Urusei Yatsura movie. Out of the rest of our Shiage credits for Akira the following all also did shiage for Angel's Egg and/or Urusei Yatsura: Minoru Ueno, Hideyuki Yagisawa, Minako Mori, Shihoko Nakayama, Yukihiko Mishimoto. Since they seem to work together as a unit (presumably as Yuminsha) I'm pretty confident the Manga DVD credits are correct and that this is Jun Sano, not Atsushi Sato.

It sounds plausible, but I'm not sure we can/should use speculative reasoning and deductive logic to decide whether credits are accurate or not.

This one has been languising for a while, but for now I've split the composer credit into
person#89598
and labelled the #6523 entry as "animator" since all the other credits are for animation to one degree or another.
