Apple better also ban everything with bi-racial couples, some parents may be offended! Also there's a strong danger of young girls getting sex changes to experience boy/boy love themselves after reading yaoi manga. It's a growing trend folks. [/sarcasm] Thankfully I don't own one of these wastes of technology.

It's not a waste of technology.
This is called doing what the majority of your clients want to keep those profits going. |

Dear Teenagers,
This is what happens when you download porn onto a phone whose bill is paid by your parents. Please stop being so stupid from now on. Dear Parents, If your kids want to look at porn, they are going to find a way, whether you like it or not. You have two options: a.) Lock them in a closet until they are 27 years old; or, b.) Learn to deal with it. Dear Apple, Create a system whereby parents can sign their kids up for phones, and list the date at which they will reach the age of majority, and then restrict "adult" content from being able to be downloaded. That, or create an "opt out" system for people who simple don't want access to porn at all on their iPhones. Seriously? This whole "content restriction" thing didn't work out too well for LiveJournal or Amazon when they tried it... Yours, C |

Will they apply these same standards to the Japanese iphone apps store and the 1000s and 1000s of idol and AV picture slideshow apps?
What about all the downloadable manga in the Japanese app store that has naked women (there's a LOT)... Oh, I suppose the rules only apply to the US app store |

Of course you can still get Playboy, Playgirl, SI: swimsuit, Victoria Secret, etc, etc. The only thing they banned were apps by smaller companies or independent developers.
It sounds more like Apple is trying to make the major companies they are partnering with happy then they are making the store "family Friendly". |

Apparently Apple may not be quite as strict as they first appeared. This whole thing is pretty stupid though.
It makes sense to respond to customer complaints, especially women saying they're offended as there is one hell of a political machine that'll get behind them. (Seriously, who'd want to get into that mess? It's a lot easier to deal with annoyed explicit content supporters than women who can claim Apple is sexist.) However, an outright ban constitutes just telling another group of customers to go away. Adding a specific section for the "offensive" material and giving a better, if rather stupid, explanation for what got some content tossed and other kept, is a step in the right direction. |

Wow... and I thought I was joking when I kept saying the iPod and iTunes is like downloading Big Brother. Back in 1984 Mac joked that they were alternative to Big Brother in their famous ad. Now they are Big Brother.

why couldn't apple set up an age limit for the "explicit" content so all the complaining parents wouldn't have to protect their precious little snowflakes from iphone porn even though they can still get to it online. as for the women finding offense to it, hey it's understandable but wouldn't it be less stressful for both them and apple if they just ignored it

I hope they go reverse on this decision, I'm not one to download porn on iphones or ipods at all (lol, not for moral reasons though, I just find it pointless) However I don't like that censorship direction when apple has a ratings system in the phone!
Kids shouldn't be able to download those apps, and if they are too young (according to their account) apple should just hide those flagged products, it should be easy to code/do if it wasn't already done! I mean, I never can see these things stopping here and eventually we will see M-rated games go down, so no more Resident Evils, No More Metal Gears, no GTA's, and potentially tons of violent indy games taken down. Then if they are only going after skimpy clothed people like sports illustrated, that's even more limiting. This has to be apple's worst decision ever, and they need to change this trend and fast. (Apparently the best way would be to spam them with complaints back, since they fold one way obviously they can fold again) |

I agree. though now that their doing this i wont be getting it again cause it explains why my service was banned. Sure using those loli apps and some of those ecch otaku apps from kodomo no jikan and nanoha season 1 was over the top but come on. I'm glad that minors wont have them but a lot of thos fanservice otakus and loli app junkies will be disapointed. I sure am. Probably would try verizon's droid. |

Apple ≠ government; not all censorship is in the category of Big Brother. |

Not an tool for Apple, thank God.
iPhone can literally burn in a fire. I'll gladly carry the torch. Honestly...Why don't they do content restriction on individual phones? T-Mobile has parental control on their phones... Last edited by tygerchickchibi on Thu Feb 25, 2010 4:51 pm; edited 1 time in total |

He's talking about the iPhone; not Apple's actions. You wouldn't usually consider an action a technology, would you? Maybe a sophisticated move, yes. |

what baffles me is that most of these aps were already in the adult section of the store, were clearly marked for content, and were previously approved by apple.
