I think it depends on the length of a series and if a company (in Japan) decides to switch U.S. licensors or not.

But from what I can guess, most licenses for U.S. adaptations of anime can theoretically last forever. In most cases, if an American company already produces, dubs, and distributes a title, then it really wouldn't make sense to switch it over to someone else, right?

But for some of the other cases, such as say...,DBZ or Akira, I'm not really sure what actually went down, but they eventually changed licenses from what they orignally were, maybe some kind of corporate loopholes? Anime dazed

I'm no licensing expert... yet. So I'll leave this question open to someone else who may know better. Wink

The only title I can remember having a recent license switch is My Neighbor Totoro. FOX had it, but Disney picked it up once FOX's license expired.

Didn't Saber R switch hands?

Don't forget that Streamline (I think...) once had the rights to Nausicaa...but those thankfully expired many years ago.

I'm sure all licenses have set time periods. It would seem to be quite long in most cases, perhaps a decade or more?
