You can call me otaku_anon, and I am doing research on the meaning of "otaku" in Japan and America.
I am a senior at Furman University in SC, and I am doing this research separate from class, though it is funded through my school. I am trying to get responses from anyone who knows about anime and otaku and who has an opinion on it. Please email me if you are interested, and check out my surveys. Otaku of America: For people with general (or little) understanding of otaku: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=dKZXHxZn86hcpLRjXvf_2fIQ_3d_3d For self-proclaimed otaku and people with a deep understanding of otaku: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=F9lylYw_2fmUjg9EEgvcOBPA_3d_3d |

Well, I decided to post an intro since I'm sure everyone is dying to learn more about me. It's also 2:00am and I'm bored.
Name: Dustin Riley Blood Type: A-(Does anyone actually care about that?) Sex: Male Location: Physically located in Bagram, Afghanistan right now, but in about 23 days I should be back in Houston, TX Nationality/Ethniticty: Hmm...I have some Irish, German, Native American(Black Feet tribe). There are some other things in there as well, but I'm pretty much just American. Marital Status: Divorced. I got one of those "Dear John's" you always here about while I was deployed to Afghanistan; except it was more of a phone call than a letter. Age: 27 Birthdate: March 2 Profession: Systems Administrator. Soon I'll be a full time student though. Religion: Agnostic Drink/Smoke: I don't drink often. I never smoke. Likes: Camping(not the kind done in the military), swimming, reading, playing video games, anime Dislikes: Lying(I hate it intensely. This is myself lying not other people. If you feel you need to degrade yourself through lies that's your own business.), people without common sense, recruiting for the Army Favorite anime: Haibane Renmei, Kaleido Star, Kino's Journey,Excel Saga, Now and Then, Here and There, Maze(I know it's cheesy, but it cracks me up),most of Studio Ghibli's line up Favorite manga: Ultimate Hentai Kaimen, Aishiteruze Baby, The Hating Girl, BioMeat, Angel Densestu Favorite game: I'd have to say Lunar: The Silver Star story and Lunar: Eternal Blue for the Sega CD. They're what got me into RPGs. Favorite book/authors: Brian Jacques(He's what made me think of books as something enjoyable to read in elementary school) Orson Scott Card's books are all great, Marion Zimmer Bradley's as well. Favorite food: Italian and Mexican Favorite drink: Orange and grape juice Family: Mother, father, one older brother, two younger sisters(both adopted from Korea) Favorite sport: Swimming. If you're talking about watching then none. I can't stand to watch any sport. Favorite Music: I don't think I have any. I didn't even start listening to music until I was 19 and started driving home to Houston from FT Hood every weekend. A three and a half to four hour drive can be extremely difficult in extreme silence. I only listen to female vocalists though. Favorite Quote: "Whosoever sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed..." Genesis 9:6 "No bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country." General George S. Patton Fun facts: -I became a vegetarian at the age of 16 simply because I said I would. I don't go back on my word. -The first PoWs from the 2003 Iraq war came from my unit(1-227th Aviation), and we weren't even supposed to be there. My battalion commander begged to get us attached to a different division so we could be the first across the border. -I was able to tour the ruins of Babylon during my second deployment to Iraq. -I've been to Honen Matsuri(Or as us gaijin like to call it. The Giant Penis Festival) in Komaki, Japan. -Umm...erm...I'm running out of ideas. I used go to school with and live next door to an anime voice actress. Jessica Boone -I think that's about all the things I can come up with for fun facts. Some of them didn't really seem all that fun. Picture: My most recent pictures(and pretty much the only ones I have access to are from my most recent trip to Japan. On top of the Studio Ghibli Museum. Can you guess where that block is from? In front of Kinkakuji in Kyoto. She wanted to eat my map. There are more deer on Miyajima than people. Not me but still pretty cool. Honen Matsuri. Yes, that is what you think it is. From my military time. Trying to act like I actually know how to pilot an Apache Longbow. Last edited by Ralifar on Sun Oct 18, 2009 6:10 am; edited 3 times in total |

Kudos for including pics! So few people do anymore.
That said, the links to the last few are broken. Anyway, welcome to ANN even though you've actually been here a while already. |

Sorry for the late welcomes, been helping a friend move and unpack lately. They got a lot of stuff . However it's long overdo for a nice big ANN welcome to theloniustrebonius, Imperial Daemon, sypherman, Hydeologist, shaggyglasses, blacotaku1, astrogirl, Mayuhito, darkprism, p0pzi, Sparkamus Prime, and Ralifar. I also want to say 2 very big special welcomes to Past and Stinkles. Even though you're not new Noelle welcome again for posting again here lol. And super big special welcomes to Stinkles who is my new God and I worship at your Halo feet. Kudos to Ralifar for posting pics btw as almost no one does anymore which is sad. Hopefully you're all enjoying your stay here at our magical kingdom of insanity. As part of your unofficial welcome (because i am sad and enjoy doing this silly welcome thing lol) you all get your very own mystery welcome bag of goodies. *hands them all a brown paper lunch bag* Inside you lucky people are the new proud owners of a used piece of cheesecloth, a handful of wet acorns, a 6x6 inch piece of a lamp shade, and the skull of a Brute used as a salad bowl by mister 117 himself. Hopefully you'll all enjoy your fine gifts and stay here and don't forget these words of wisdom; "Insurance is like marriage. You pay, pay, pay, and you never get anything back."

I can put the wet acorns inside the cheese cloth and hit people over the head with it. That's always useful. I'll have to figure out what to do with the other two items.
Here's some more "fun facts" about me. When someone addresses me(even if indirectly) I have the strong urge to reply. I try to hold it down, but it usually wins out. I'm also rather blunt and can come off as mean or rude sometimes, but really, I'm lovable. I just don't like sugar-coating things, and I prefer people to do the same with me. Why not post pictures? It doesn't hurt me any to let you see my ugly mug. I doubt any of you would want to hunt me down and stalk me. |

Clearly, I doubt anyone would want to go to where you are.
I showed that to my boss while we drank the sneaked white wine [from the restaurant at my workplace] which was meant for cooking then he revealed to me he was asking for divorce next month. lol Then I told him I'd never marry, and that was it for our drunken night at work. But yeah, the main point for mentioning it was that we found it funny. But I guess after the mess we did tonight the Chef responsible for the restaurant might want to rethink about leaving the keys with me. |

One can only assume you've gone back on your word at some point since then. Otherwise I'm racked with confusion by this mild discrepancy. |

That was a combination of laziness and stupidity on my part.
Lazy because rather than type the tag words in I just hit quote on someone and just changed the meat of the post. Stupid because I didn't proofread it well enough to realize I hadn't changed the food category from what the previous person had typed in. It has now been updated. I don't go back on my word, but I never said I didn't make stupid mistakes.
Oh, but on the 10th of November I should be back in Houston for good. This means that anyone that would like to stalk me can begin then. I'll be flying in so you have a 50/50 chance of getting the right airport as it will be one of the two major airports that I will arrive at. |

Welcome to the forums. I hope you enjoy yourself. I'm interested to know how you incorporate Roman Catholicism and Gaudiya Vaishnavism. I'm not attacking your faith or anything like that. I'm honestly curious. And if you practice Gaudiya Vaishnavism shouldn't you be a vegetarian. |
